Is it wise to mix different refresh rate monitors on multiple display setups?

I've seen a lot of varying reports on this. Some people say they can use a 60hz and 144z display in a dual screen setup and use each monitor fine, but there are others who are saying that the refresh rates mess up when mixing it together.

I ask this as currently I have 2 60hz monitors, but I want to add in a 3rd monitor thats 144hz for gaming use. Just not sure if it will actually work so was wondering if anyone on here has had similar experience
 
Have you ever had any issues with this, or at least heard of anyone else having this issue?

I have 2 monitors:
  • Dell Gsync 1440p and 144hz
  • Asus IPS panel 60hz
I only game on the Dell and I've never had an issue. I frequently switch between them while gaming (spotify/discord on the 2nd) and never had an issue.
 
I'm 144Hz G-Sync on screen 1 and 60Hz on screen 2. My screen 1 ends up getting capped at 60hz if I run anything full screen on monitor 2. Cannot for the life of me fix it either.

For some reason it doesnt seem to affect everyone, but it certainly does happen which is making me question whether to bother getting a 144hz screen f its not even going to work properly

It's only really video content that does it. SLOBS is a main culprit. If I "just" have something like Discord open though it's fine. Just graphically accelerated stuff.
 
Main screen 1440p 144Hz DP
Secondary 1200p 60Hz DP to DVI converter
and 1080p 60Hz DP
Never ran anything exclusive full screen on secondary monitors, so can't say if that caps frames. Playing videos works fine
One issue that happens in multi-monitor setups is high idle clocks in videocard. Which is sometimes remedied by running screens at same refresh.

Vega 64 has no problems, idle clock or otherwise. I remember 980Ti back then was ok for with two screens after driver update fixed high idle clock

What if, for example:

plyaing game on 144hz monitor full screen, but on secondary 60hz monitor, just running a regular youtube video but NOT full screen?

Am I still going to see issues there?

The problem seems to be very hit and miss. I would say on my machine yes you'd see a problem as it is now. Some people say they have no problem and don't know what all the fuss is about. It is supposedly to do with how Windows 10 handles the displays.
A "cheap" way of fixing it is to pin your 144Hz display to 120Hz as apparently then it would come down but who buys a 144Hz to run it at 120Hz? <Although you probably wouldn't be able to tell.

Works fine here. One 120 Hz monitor, one 100 Hz monitor, and one 60 Hz monitor.

Which I don't really understand, well I do 60*2=120 but 12*5=60, 12*10=120 and 12*12=144 so we assume the delta falls on 60 or possible 30.
 
Me neither, but there obviously is some kind of maths/science behind this.
 
@Praz94 here's a turn up for the books. I tried a different game over the weekend and didn't have the problem of monitor 1's FPs capping to the same as monitor 2. Odd as the game is extremely more demanding but it behaved fine. Lots of variables and no way to give a straight answer.
