Should be good for a year or two providing you have used some decent paste.

Every few months is excessive. I only ever do it if I'm stripping down my PC for whatever reason, which is probably a year or 2 apart.

In short. NO. Just get some decent paste (mx4 say) and leave it be.

Any half decent brand will take years before there is a significant decrease in thermal performance in most cases. (Most of the brands I use are rated for atleast 6-7 years).
