Is it worth getting a 2nd 840 EVO for RAID?

Hi guys,

I currently own a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD but am starting to run out of space with a number of new games that have just been released.

Would I be better to buy a 2nd hand 840 EVO and RAID0 it or buy a larger SSD?

I am assuming the RAID 0 would give me a bit more performance too and obviously 500GB worth of space?

Also would I be able to take an image of my current W8.1 Pro installation and copy it onto the RAID?

:D

RAID hits the access times a little bit which is one of the bigger advantages of having an SSD while your probably not making full use of the read/write speeds of a single SSD for gaming use.

You could image your current install with something like Acronis or Macrium but it can be a little complicated moving it to a RAID setup (depending on AHCI, RAID, etc. settings).

Thanks for the reply.

Apart from the extra space would I see a noticeable speed improvement at all do you think?

Well I managed to source a 2nd 840 250GB EVO for £49.00 so very happy about that.

Will let you know if I see an improvement.

please do, I am considering the same thing for space as my second HDD failed not so long ago and would be a option to take if you get a improvement

I came here to ask the exact same thing but for my 500GB EVO

I only have 50GB left and it is only used for gaming.

And I'd rather pay £150ish for another 500GB and Raid 0 it, than £300ish for a 1TB with my old drive not doing a lot.

I'm not interested in performance gains, just more space for installing games. With as small as possible hit to my wallet.

A list of negative outcomes wouldn't go a miss either :)

Yeah this is pretty much what I was after. I got the second SSD at such a low price it was a no brainer for me.
