As the title says, is it worth it ?
All i really use my pc for is gaming, i pretty much play all the latest games. I will be getting crysis when it is released so will 4GB make make much difference?
I have 2GB at the moment and running vista ultimate 64.
Thanks

Crysis + x64 Vista + current DDR2 prices = No brainer.

Providing you have a DDR2 rig. Even with a DDR1 rig it's a great idea.

Is it confirmed that crysis + 4gb gives a significant increase on the same rig but with 2gb ?

I have 4GB and Vista Home Premium is saying there is 3.5GB available for use. Not sure how or why as usually I only see 3.12GB.

Yes but using 4gb of ram for an OS and a game are two completely different things ! as far as i am aware no game yet uses over 2 gigs of ram on any operating system.
Even a game like bioshock doesn't go over 1.75 gigs on vista 64 bit.

Only reason I'm going for it is for vmware / virtual pc etc. Just need to see what price it is for my HP laptop 6715b.

We put 16GB into the passive node on one of our SQL clusters on Friday. Failover this week and upgrade the other node.. I know a number of servers at work have 64GB installed... I've got 3GB in my work XP machine and it flys

Its all over forums, in many threads.

32bit Windows inc XP and Vista can see between 3GB and 3.5GB of System Memory, it depends on how much Video Memory you have, as I have 768MB of Video Memory I seen 3.25Gb in XP.

And if anyone says you can hack it to use 4GB thats BS as its only a Switch added to the Boot ,ini file to use the extra 1GB as a Swap File (Page File / Virtual Memory).

Hope that helps you.

Hello!

I`m planning to get 4GB of Memory when I buy my new setup but was wondering if i`ll have any problems running Windows XP Pro 32 bit with that much memory? I`m concerned because ive herd on the internet that WindowsXP 32 bit doesn`t like 4GB of Memory and won`t run properly?

The reason why I ask this, is because i`m going to use my XP as my primary OS and Vista for gaming.

You wont get problems...you just cant use the whole 4Gb. However..as said above...get Vista 64.....and 4Gb is a must now Id think. A few games gave me mucho problems with only 2Gb ram...generally cos the system was wanting to use more than 2Gb....mainly BF2 and 2142.

Just in case anyone is interested, I've just upgraded to 4GB of RAM and everything feels very noticeably snappier in Windows. Windows appear instantly and Vista also loads faster. Now to try some gaming.

P.S. it hasn't affected my overclock or timings at all and everything seems normal including, touch wood, my sound card (X-Fi!).

Just to add another opinion: I've been using Vista for maybe 6 months now, on two different machines and I've found that for me going from 2GB to 4GB didn't make any difference that I've noticed with the exception that caching seems to be much smoother (before when I started playing a new game or one that I hadn't played for awhile it seemed to be a little slower and more judder-happy than usual, particularly in the first 30 mins or so but still to an extent for the first few times I played it).

I used Vista Business in both cases running in standard mode (no transparency, "dynamic" thumbnails or Flip3D) with Quicktime and Creative volume control the only apps running in the taskbar (no other background apps).

I've just made the upgrade from 2GB to 4GB of RAM, Vista loads a lot quicker although everything feels more or less the same, programs like Photoshop are a bit more responsive though and hasn't affected my overclock in the slightest or my X-Fi sound card, haven't tried running any games yet though.

I tried 4GB in my old mobo an Asus P5WDH and it "Appropriated" 800mb !

I havent tried 4GB in my Blitz Formula yet, who knows it may actually be able to use it all
