Hey everyone hope your all doin good,

As the title says really...

Is it worth selling my setup

AMD A64 4400+ X2
2X1GB CRUCIAL BALLISTIX TRACER DDR500
DFI LANPARTY ULTRA-D
7900GTX

For a Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 setup? (Obviously keeping the 7900GTX!)

I work MOSTLY in Music (Cubase / Reason) and in Windows, also play games occasionally (BF2 etc)

Noticeable difference?

I was thinking the same thing but would need new memory, cpu and mobo which you are looking at £500+. So I am gonna stay as i am cus the performance difference won't be that much different in real terms that the benchmarks show. Wait for the platform to mature a bit or wait for quad core. :)

Im going to wait for Kentfield ?

The Quad Core Chip :D

I did,

I sold my

AMD OPTERON 170 @ 2.8ghz
2X1GB GSKILL HZ DDR500
DFI LANPARTY EXPERT

And Kept my 7900GTX

The performance increase is staggering :D

Is there anything your current PC cant do that you need it to?
Does it stall/stutter?
Are both cores maxed out (100%)?

If not then there is no point!

And if it it is maxing out have you tried overclocking it? You have an overclockers motherboard so it should overclock at least a bit...

Sorry for being so rational about it...

Cya,

I work with a lot of Audio, which requires a lot of encoding etc, plenty of CPU usage.

If you want my honest answer, I do find my comp a bit slow for it lol

wait for qaud core

Then when quad core comes out that will cost a fortune then someone will say wait for 8 core then 12 core then 100000000000 cores.

There is always something better around the corner.Waiting is pointless IMO

Stupid question, wrong section but...

Whats the fastest memory I should be looking for? Im confused with PC8000 DDR2 etc etc and all this malarkey!

Waiting pays off sometimes.

Going on your statement, all those wanting to upgrade a week before conroe's release would be better choosing an alternative then waiting a week for a conroe?......

People want the best for their money, which is why u have a lot of "spec me up" threads.

This changes every month, sometimes every week, and occasionally can change in a matter of days.

What personally gets me, is why people spend 1-2 days awaiting replies on a forum, when most of the time, the time spent on asking on the forum could be used to answer the question themselves with some help of google. However theres always something that is better from the horses mouth so to speak, but the problem with forums is a lot is based on gossip....... not all mind you, but maybe half....

------- back on topic -------

At the end of the day, if the X2 doesnt give you the performance you need, and you can sell the parts, or can afford the upgrade, then why not.....

Just don't upgrade for the hell of it, unless obviously you can afford to throw your money around.

In reality my s939 setup is outdated now, but i havnt chucked anything at it that makes it really struggle. I still had that upgrade bug though, and really considered Conroe, but to be honest, i think the only reason i'd be doing it is to boast and just know i have the best. So really its pointless.

Good solid reason or not..... if you want to upgrade then do it, you don't need justification from anyone else. Choose your priorities, and make your own decision, i know what i'd do, do you?

I think you will find it better in benchmarks - someone else on the forum sold their AMD and went Conroe - got it to 3.5gigs as well but said that it doesn't "feel" any faster so it was a lot of work for nothing.

Can't remember who it was but he is a forum regular with a high post count - wish I could remember his name - seems to have been the voice of reason so far.

I mean we all want the best kit but sometimes the real world difference isn't as vast as we would like it to be

EDIT - found it - the ASGARD here

Do people realise that surfing the internet, posting in forums etc will not be any faster?

Try rendering a mini DV sequence in Adobe premier and then report back!
