Is it worth switching from Hotmalil to Gmail?

I have a hotmail address, and a gmail address. [email protected], and my [email protected]. I use my msn account for just about everything, my google mail account is really just a by-product of having an android phone, yet I get about 4 junk mails a week to my msn account, and about 10 a day to my gmail account. They're all picked up by the spam filter, so that doesn't matter too much, but at the end of the day I can't fault hotmail. Maybe gmail is technically better, but I haven't ever thought "aw I wish I could do this", so until then, I'm good. :)

It's a double edged sword

'omg there is already a thread on this, use the search function'

vs

'lolwtf why reseruct such an old thread?'

Either way OspreyO, people will give you some kind of grief.

Make your mind up, people!

I think usually it would be fine, just open with sorry to revive an old thread and then ask your question.

where as this time it just seemed like a random bump as he didn't ask a question was just answering previous replies from 5 months ago.

I also doubt he was sitting there this morning and then thought "****, I have the perfect response for that thread from 5 months ago!" :D:D

Anyways it doesn't really matter in the end, what we should all be worried about at this stage is whether 5UB will end up getting a result from his takeaway debacle!

I don't use web-based email, except for signing up to sites that will undoubtedly spam me, even then, those accounts tend to be temporary ones.

GMail is great. What I've recently done is buy a domain name and set up a private email address, using GMail to access and use the address. Very cheap (think it was about 4 quid for the year, including the purchase of the domain name and basic hosting), it's quite easy to do, and you get a unique email address which you can use through GMail/android etc.

i use skydrive for the cloud since Google offer 1gb for free vs 25gb from live.

hopefully this will change with gdrive
but i use gmail for professional jobs.

Consider, also people clicked in this thread after I bumped it, not because it was old, but because the title was of interest.

Besides I was making a different point to what was said previously, you don't have to chose between different email providers you can use them all through one interface, and if its important you should back it up offline.

Seriously how do people find these threads :o

Well, considering the fact that there are so many pedantic gits on here that always refer people to the search function, it's quite likely that people are doing just that and adding to previous threads rather than starting new ones. ;)

Do you not all get an e-mail address from your ISP? I've never seen the point of an online e-mail account.

Yes but people change ISPs quite frquently, and those accounts are not portable. Better to use hotmail/gmail or a personal domain account.

I have both and use both equally.

Although I associate my 'work' one to GMAIL and my personal/gamer one to HOTMAIL. Basically, I give work colleagues my gmail when I get to know them and my close friends and family have my hotmail one.

Having said that, having a google account with an Android phone works great. Got pretty much everything synched up to gmail. Contacts. Calender. Documents etc.

If google dies and I need to switch to something else, I can just migrate my contacts over (don't know about calender though).
