Is it worth upgrading my NVME ?

I currently have a Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB that I bought back in 2020. Would it yet be worth upgrading to something like an SN850 or would I not see any sort of difference

If we're talking about direct replacement then If you don't do data-intensive work, there won't be much benefit, though down the road there may be some with direct storage.

I use my PC mainly for gaming, the extra storage would be nice (I could put my current NVME in a caddy) but not sure if it's worth upgrading

If that's your main drive, changing from crappy QLC to TLC sure wouldn't be bad thing.

Yeah, it's my main drive

Having done similar, I saw no noticeable improvements outside of benchmarks.

What was your previous drive and what drive did you move to ?

Probably not unless you need the extra space and are upgrading for that.

Be careful of the big drop off in QLC performance when they're getting near full, the cache space drops off fast and they're really slow to write to when the cache is exhausted.

The extra space could always be nice though, I'd like to be able to keep more games installed at one time

Is the SN850 the one to go for if I did want more storage or should I look at something else

SN850 is a top tier drive and there's been some good deals this week.

The issue is, I'm using a B450 Tomahawk max which I believe is Gen3, the SN850 is Gen4, will that cause any issues

No issues but you may as well save some cash and get a Gen 3 drive for half the price.

I suppose it might just be worth waiting until I decide to move to b550 and then do it since it seems I'll barely get any sort of performance increase anyway

Should have mentioned that your board was only Gen 3 .

I forgot to mention it

I was considering upgrading to B550 but again I'm just not sure if it's worth it. Seems to be only a slight sidegrade
