Hi

Is it worth upgrading my Ryzen 5 3600 to one of the new AMD CPU's?

I built my PC last year
• CoolerMaster MasterBox TD500 Mesh
• AOC C24G2AE/BK 24" monitor
• be quiet! Pure Power 11 500W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply
• Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) 3600 MHz AMD Ryzen Tuned DDR4 Memory Dual Kit
• AMD Ryzen 5 3600
• MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI Motherboard
• MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB MECH OC Graphics

I get pretty much well over 110+fps on most games on high or ultra settings.

Yes.
Its the best gaming cpu in the world why not?
One could make an argument to wait for the zen3 refresh q1 with 3DV cache which then would have a 30% ipc lift vs your current cpu.
in one generation basically.

I upgraded every generation thanks to amd mboard am4 and saw improvements.
 
Pretty much no…. but the reality is it entirely depends on how much you spent on the 3600, how much you can get for it and what price you’re willing to pay for an upgrade.
 
The PSU is pretty weak. As your 1080p high refresh you will want a strong cpu. If you dont change that display anytime soon then you can just drop in a new gen cpu.

I tend to plan a build then upgrade as least as possible. My general advice would be jack up the res and put the load onto the GPU, but I have a 4k monitor anyway with a 3600. It all depends on what type of gamer you play as and what you intend to buy in the future?
 
A 5900x is a decent upgrade from a 3600, but whether it’s worth the £320-30 odd difference to change is up to you…
 
I would say so, the biggest improvements between the 3000-5000 series can be seen when gaming @1080p high refresh rate. It would also stand you in bettr stead when you next upgrade your GPU

Would definitely be worth it considering your resolution. I upgraded my cpu from the 3900x to the 5800x and noticed a decent improvement :)

regarding the op, probably not considering your only at 1080p, and getting 110fps+ already

My POV is the same as above's whole post.

While the sale of your 5700xt could be very beneficial to you right now, as it will allow you to get close to the cost of a 6700xt, your PSU may be a concern, i don't recall what wattage your components are. But it may be worth a look at, the cost of a new CPU will lightly cost you higher £ per FPS than the GPU in the current market.
 
PSU might be OK IMHO. I was running a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX1080FE off a Corsair SF450 450W PSU for years,and was seeing around 280W at worst at wall with gaming. When I upgraded to a Ryzen 7 3700X it was around the same power consumption. According to TPU a reference RX5700XT consumes around 50W more than a GTX1080FE,so it should be around 330W.However,if it is one of the highly overvolted RX5700XT models,it can be another 60W on top of that.
With a Ryzen 7 3700X and an RTX3060TI FE,and an SF600 600W it is around 310W at worst under a heavy gaming load.

At this point, really really no.

We have the new AMD v-cache CPUs launching early next year, and we have Alder Lake shaking the market about a bit. At least wait until prices settle, you might be able to grab a good deal on something like a 5600X/5800X but not at £300/£400.

Im considering this myself as the 5800X is on deal at the moment and I no longer require higher core counts, my PC is just for gaming now.
 
the 5800 is on sale everywhere .. so thats it's new price waiting till fri . to see if it drops again ... i'm coming from a 1700 so should see loads of improvement :).. then late next yr do a rebuild with zen 4

Can anybody persuade me for or against moving to a 5800X from a 3900X?

If you're gaming at 1080p high refresh rate I think it's worth it.

If gaming at 1440P high refresh rate it's probably not worth it especially if you're doing any content creation type stuff as well.
