Is it worth upgrading Q6600 to Q9450?

Agreed. Not worth it IMHO. I run a Q6700 @3.2 gigs and play multiplayer SupCom with a guy who has a Q9450 also @ 3.2. There's never much in it, and although hardly an empirical comparison, shows that the smaller process and bigger cache doesn't make that much difference.

Just my $0.02 though and I could be wrong :D

not sure - but has anyone heard of anyone frying a 65nm Quad ? I haven't.

temps aren't bad - 79C under small prime (gulp) but still stable

but never gets anywhere near there under normal usage - 48C idle, and worst I've seen is 68C under load

Mark.

Why? What is the max vcore these can take (serious question).

-48C? What cooling are you using? :p

Still, not really worth going over 1.4v really i think since performance increase is negligible and life expectancy is shortened.

A while back i switched from a 3.8ghz q6600 to a q9550, bit of a crazy upgrade, the new cpu ran a bit cooler, but no difference in games, ive since sold the 9550 and im going i7 now.

I've asked the same question here. The difference is I'm on a B3 q6600 and my current mobo would also need an upgrade as it can't take this CPU. I thought it would be a cheapish upgrade though as second hand socket 775 mobo's can be had quite cheap.

ive still got my Q6600, and was wondering weather to upgrade to that, but going to hold out for abit, still does the job :)
