The Q7 is a great car, that 1st one is abit too bling. I can't think of a better car in it's class tbh.

Unfortunately as people have said it is arguably the best 7 seater on the market and as its in my budget its the purchase ill be making. Id love more choice, but I just dont like the Zafiras & co.

Being the realistic person I am, no I wont be going after one of those bling' versions... the Mrs would park it on my nuts if I did :D, I just think they look pretty neat for what they can do with a big tank like the Q7.

The ARU use them because they think they are better than an equivalent X5

No, they use them because they presumably got a better deal from Audi. Police forces don't pick cars based purely on whats the absolute best tool for the job. And there are just as many X5's, if not more, on the fleet.

This much is obvious when East Yorkshire police signed up a fleet of Lexus ISF for use as traffic police pursuit vehicles.

Had lexus not given them such an amazing deal effectively using them as publicity, the police would likely never have chosen them and instead plumped for what most other police forces now seem to be buying new - BMW & Volvo estates.

Yes. It's a monstrosity. Please submit yourself to your nearest mental health care institute for treatment :)

On a general note, it often strikes me as odd the number of poeple who suddenly think they need a minibus when the first kid comes along. I dont think I've ever seen one full. Who has 4 or 5 children these days anyway? What's wrong with a spacious saloon or estate car? Was perfectly fine for me and two siblings growing up until we were big enough we never wanted to go anywhere with mum and dad anyway. You then have a boot as standard! If some people accept they maybe dont actually need a minibus, they have a staggeringly superior choice of vehicles open to them!

Apologies, OP, if you actually have 4 or 5 children :)

3 kids, all in car seats which is the problem.

1 in a booster
1 in a front facing
1 in a rear facing soon going into a front facing... so pretty much unless a car has 3 full seats at the back, things are a squash.

Ive looked at bigger BMWs / Mercedes the 7 series and S class iirc (someone could put me right if they are not the biggest versions) and I dont think id get the space needed... however the plus side of those is, a proper boot, not a half boot, which is what happens when 1 seat is up, or pretty much no boot if 2.

I might go down and get the seats tested in those cars ... but I know the X5 is a no-no as is the Mercedes SUV thing, ML iirc.

If you want a Merc similar to the Q7. Get a GL. Uncle has one, I'm not that fond of it as it looks Boxy but plenty of space inside.

+1!
Me and my two brothers were ferried about in a 3-door Manta! It's not like Mum and Dad couldn't afford a minibus either.
For 90% of people they're just statements, or they buy them so they can crash into smaller cars on the motorway and come away with only a dinted bumper.

I can get exactly the same configuration as you into my 5 series, got a 4 yr old in a booster, a 19 month old in a front facing baby seat and a 12 week old on a rear facing seat, it's not as easy as it would bein a 7 seater but it's still not difficult, and i was looking for a 7 seater before too. I can only imagine a 7 series would be even bigger than the 5.

But presumably you can't fit three child seats and two adults? That's where these horrible mpv/ people carrier things come in.

Last I heard, only a few police services have them; most ARVs are BMWs, Volvos and Range Rovers.

Each service chooses their own vehicles based on their own needs/preferences and what sort of deal they're offered, there isn't one vehicle for all.
