Is lidl/aldi a rubbish quality food store?

how are we still at snobbery stage of Aldi and Lidl. They are great stores.
Might depend when you’re from, people in south probably think they’ll catch the plague from the peasants if they go

Also might depend on the individual town, some still have quite a rundown looking stores. The ones near me are all brand new, the rundown ones were knocked down and rebuilt with self service etc.

if your lidl has the bakery countery with all the fresh bread and pastries then its worth going in for that alone.

IDK if they do them in UK though

Chia bread was addictive.

Whole bakery thing is probably a loss leader to get people in the door, also directly next to the front door.
Tis the reason I go to Lidl, a belgian bun and 2 croissants is a great saturday morning breakfast :)

We only have a Lidl near by, but nip in quite often - personally I find a lot of their copy brand stuff is pretty good, the Hoola Hoops especially; you get more in a bag, they have more crunch to them, and (imo taste exactly the same otherwise).

Lidl is pretty much a no go for veg though - unless you plan on using it the same day! The number of times we've grabbed a few bits, only to bung them in the food bin, as they were going brown the next day or so.

Personally I use a mish-mash of shops, even M&S, as their prices often aren't that much more, but the quality is miles ahead imo

This is the reason i got to Lidl. I spend more time at the bakery section then the actual shopping.

I shop in at both stores aldi and Lidl. Yes can be hit an miss at times but you get used to it. I do go to Asda now and then if i can't find anything.

Don't you meet Vicky Pollards at ASDA?

I'm always on the hunt for different and weird new brands of crisps, being a fully committed crisp connoisseur, and Aldi are always good for this, often in those metal cage bins they have. They also meet 95% of my pop needs.

Might be a French thing, but the fruit& veg in our local Lidl is more international than in the other supermarkets and seems to go off faster than the mostly French and Spanish seasonal stuff does.

As far as everything else goes, I think Lidl/Aldi goods are 90% as good as the big brand versions at 60% of the price.

Any examples to try?

The problem is also possibly self making. In that if the south middle class have a large chunk of people not sure to try aldi/lidl, then it'll leave just the lower class to go in those stores, and so when a middle class person goes in, they will feel scared and run away due to being surrounded by peasants and have bad view of aldi/lidl for this.

If they walked in and found a load of middle class folk, with 25 plate volvo and range rover outside, they may like the store more and be more open to it.

Always shop at Lidl, but we needed some prescription medication, so popped into Asda, this was my experience.

I can't believe that.

I live near an iceland and see nice cars parked outside from people nipping in all the time.
Maybe they disability cars though :D from people cheating the system. (huge debate raging in SC about them)

If anyone wants to see why some stores are best avoided, I'd actively encourage you to vist Asda in Roehampton on a Friday evening.

Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it, disgusting.

Aldi has effectively replaced Morrison's in the "big 4" so it must be doing something right.

We get the numbers presented to us every quarter and every time either Aldi, Lidl or both are stealing big numbers from the other supermarkets

They don't play any music in the Aldi nearest me
