Is Mazda rx8 is 1300cc ?

Well the quastion is in the title.

but im just wondering. i worked out that for mazda rx8 u pay less insurance ten for honda civic vti as it has less cc? or im somewere wrong?

Ps: as u buy insuranse from web it just asked what cc the car has.
 
It is 1300cc but it's got one of those rotary engines IIRC that kick out quite a lot of performance.

And that's what you'll get stung on.

I think the RX7 was also 1300cc but developed close to 300bhp so it was a high insurance group.
 
mh well thanks for help for us insurance in ireland bit diferent i dont think we have insurance groups they just look how many cc u have . so will ring them up when i come back from holiday.

what about petrol consumtion is it much biger then hondas civic vti ? anyone knows maybe ?

It is technically a 1.3 in standard terms, but due to it being a twin rotary engine, it is effectively 2x1.3 or 2.6

Not really, it's just sometimes classed as 2.6 for tax purposes. The actual capacity of the engine is 654cc per rotor, therefore 1308cc.
 
I think measuring the swept volume of only one chamber is a bit disingenuous, for the equivalent output shaft rotation compared to a 4 stroke piston engine the 13B uses 2.6l
 
My mates RX7 says 1.3l on the log book so pays bugger all tax :-)

they wisened up with the RX8 though and class it as a 2.6l. Both sizes are technically correct - depends if you measure swept volume or volumetric capacity. On a normal engine, both are the same but they're different for a rotary so they now take the largest.

MPG, as a previous poster, high teens/low 20's on a normal drive. You acan get it into the low teens on a "spirited drive". Also expect to use between 1 and two litres of oil a month depending on mileage as the engine are disgined to consume oil to lubricate engine parts such as rotor tips that are actually INSIDE the combustion chamber. In a normal combustion engine, all the parts requiring lubrication are OUTSIDE of the combustion chamber so the oil should never be burnt.
 
Insurance companies do, in general, class it as a 2.6l and despite it's low insurance group (for what it is) I've never been able to get a reasonable quote on one.

They are good cars though, awesome power at the top end at great fun through the twistys, you just need to be aware of the costs of owning one. 1l of top quality oil every 1000miles, I struggled to get the demo car over 30mpg and it needs to be properly warmed up and cooled down again to avoid knackering the engine, so no quick trips down to the shops :p

Was going to say the same. It really annoys me how the goverment can class it as 2.6 when its half that :confused:
 
Its 1.3 on the twin rotors, but you get a power 'stoke' for each revolution unlike 1 every 2 cycles on an ICE. Which would be a way to claim 2.6L. However for every 2 rotations of the eccentric 'crank' you only get one revolution on the output shaft. So essentially a gear reduction makes it output like a 1.3 but its classed as a 2.6 purely due to the combustion process.
