Morocco seems popular, but from what I see in pics and what I read I'm not so sure it's worth it?

I like visual stuff, nature architecture etc more than food and buying stuff. And from the gist I get morroco is more for the latter.
I'd also be going with my gf, who isn't the toughest. And I do hear that for women it can be 'harder' due to the culture.

Architecture is there. But it doesn't look like there's too much. By that I mean the pictures look fairly "samey".

We'd be planning to go for a week and probably 2 locations.

Anyone fancy convincing me it's a good idea?

I’m going at the end of November.
Few nights in Marrakech, and then 4 in Essaouira.
I was going to go to Taghazout (fly out of Agadir) but reckon it’ll be too cold in November for water activity so Essaouira won out. Agadir looks pretty depressing but if you want a resort you may enjoy.
Essaouira is a world heritage site or something so should be nice, plus the Atlas Mountains look pretty cool!
The Riads look great, if you’re into architecture then they should satisfy you.

I’ve heard mixed things about women, remember it’s a Muslim country so dress appropriately and things should be ok. We went to Istanbul and she had heard bad things about that but said everyone was fine and friendly and she didn’t feel leered at. But she wasn’t cutting about in mini skirts and boob tubes…

My thinking is that it’s so cheap (flights were £60 return each or something like that) and we’re about £100 a night accommodation, so if it’s crap it’s not much money but it looks good! She’s vegan, which should be fine - lots of tagine. And, lots of good looking stuff for me. Bit concerned about price of booze but I can take it easy for a week.

I would say go for it has beautiful country side, beaches I would defiantly visit the Rif (northern morocco). I recommend flying to Tangier spending few days their it has nice old town and beach front to walk. Park Rmilat is worth checking out and Cape Spartel some great views, just please be carful if you swim in Achakkar beach its a dangerous.

I would then work your way towards Chefchaouen, you can stop off in tetouan and check out the beaches martil, cabo negro or even visit Spanish enclave Ceuta.

Half an hour drive from Chefchaouen is really nice spot for hike and swim called Akchour, their are two main routes to take when you get their. One leads to waterfall the other leads to bridge of god you can rest and have meal or tea next to river.

You can get the TVG from tangier to Casablanca then slower train to Marrakech, or the slow train to Fes which will be roasting hot at the moment..

If you do go to tanger send me PM I can recommend you some places

Definitely don't want a resort. Kind of bored of things like that on holidays.

Mines also vegan. My main concern is she's quite feminist. And I'm not sure if what happens to some (from reading) if she gets touched she might just want to come home.

It seems like it could happen, as in its rare but not unheard of.

If you like to be annoyed by people begging you to visit their shop or ask for spare change 24/7 I can highly recommend a visit to Tangiers.

I left after 8 hours back to Spain.

My first ever holiday with my then girlfriend (now wife) was in Morroco in 2011. Obviously quite a long time ago.

We had 11 nights booked at the Riu hotel in touristy Agadir but halfway through we jumped on a local coach and went to Marrakesh for a night, and stayed near in the Medina near a souk - Probably the best sleep i've had in my life.

Agadir wasn't anything special, we mainly stayed around the hotel complex and did the day trips on offer.

Atlas mountains was good, though in May it was 40°C in 4x4's with no air-con.
We did a coach trip to Essaouira on the coast, but it felt a bit regimented and we were only given an hour to explore ourselves.

Evening entertainment was laughably bad.

Marrakesh was quite nice, but two days there felt like enough.

Obviously there are other places to go, such as Fez which we didn't do.

11 nights was probably too long in Agadir. I doubt we would go again, but the holiday was nice enough...

It wasn't the holiday I would normally book but we had only been going out for 6 months and it was the first time we were 'living' together for a long period of time so we opted for something a bit 'safe'

I’ve read it’s pretty rare nowadays. I think it’s reinvented it self as a tourist spot so I think these things have been cracked down on.

It can happen anywhere, but certainly my missus (who would hate being called that as she’s very feminist as well - we’ve got a huge Guerrilla Girls poster in our Hallway!) felt fine in Turkey and was mainly in T-shirts and jeans/longer skirts. Said she felt safer and less ogled in Istanbul than in Glasgow!

I suspect you ended up looking at Morocco for similar reasons to me - where else is there that’s not far from the UK, in November and has OK weather but isn’t a touristy resorty island? Kinda left with Morocco so May as well go check it out.

My Bro lives in Gibraltar and me and my previous GF visited Tangier for 2 days. Being constantly harrassed did make it difficult sometimes. We ended up agreeing with one dude to take us around the backstreets/homes etc. Was mostly OK although had to have a row in a shop when they wanted us to buy carpets :) we did get to see way more than had we not gone with this guy.

The place itself is lovely. The people, that we experienced, were mostly OK but constantly feeling like every person and their dog is out to fleece you was waring and wasn't overly disappointed to leave.

I would recommend getting out into the Atlas mountains, its stunning! I'm heading back there next April for 3 weeks on my big adventure bike riding the off road trails in the Atlas and might even head into the desert, will see how I get on. Its a beautiful country and I found the people to be hospitable and generous. Can you imagine someone coming to England and getting invited in to spend the night in a strangers home and share their food? Happened to me several times and they didn't want to take any money from me. Go and enjoy a completely different culture.

Thanks guys. I'll prep the gf for the potential. I just know she might say she's fine but in reality might struggle. Good test though.

Maybe these more natural experiences (mountains etc) would be better than the big typical city breaks. Obviously visit a city. But not spend most time there

Can one of you get me a fez please? Not a rubbish tourist fez, a proper one from a proper place that sells to proper local people.

Hat size is 7 3/8 - 60cm.

Thank you :)
