Girls are better at seeing more colours by having an extra cone. They can see greens and blues better than men.

I definitely think I'm part woman. I'm sure I can see blues and greens better than other men. Some people have even said there isn't anything between blue and green! But that's surely insane! Or maybe mega Chads?

What you dudes are describing is called tetrachromacy. 'Tetra' means 4, so in this, it means 4 cones. Normal 3-cone vision, 1 cone for each primary colour, understands RGB in a similar way to computer displays that output RGB. In tetrachormacy, you get an extra cone somewhere between green and blue, so that's how shades between green and blue stand out better.

Only girls can have tetrachromacy but not all girls have it. It is in fact pretty rare, like 1 in a few thousand has it.

The opposite to tetrachromacy is red-green colour blindness, where you still have the blue cone but either red or green is missing which is why red/green both appear grey.

I know what it's like to be fully colour blind as it happened to me following a stint of eye operations 2 years ago. Everything was just greyscale, meaning I only had 1 cone active. When my colour vision returned after a few weeks, red was the 1st colour to return, so I could see red ok, but green and blue both looked the same, grey. So that is 2-cone vision. After a few more weeks, I finally had full colour 3-cone vision.
