Hi guys.
XFX 7850 2GB Ghost

as you might have read, i had my card clocked @ 1150/1550.

after a while, it started crashing. so i dropped it down to 1060/1460 which is when it stopped crashing.

now after 2 days of it been at them settings. its crashing again, and i have had to bring it back to stock.

do you think my silicone is on its way out ?

can i RMA back to XFX ?

or is it just worthless now ? :( ?

i dont want to leave it too long, just incase it goes pop on me and im left without any card.

PS: everthing is upto date inc bios, motherboard, gpu drivers etc etc.

i have even tried older drivers. for the card.

Jonny

probably on its way out if it wont hold an oc,tried more voltage?

rma back to place of purchase or to xfx

Hi wazza

iv tried more voltage but dosnt make any difference.

cant take it back i said bought it 2nd cand myself. but will contact xfx to see if they will help me.

should be still under warrenty wont it ?, its only a 2012 gpu isnt it ?

ok, i might leave it untill it start crashing at stock speeds. because if i send it back now and it dosnt crash is i have explained, then they will just send it back and possibly charge me :/

or do you think i should just send it now ?

Well if it is working at stock, they will send it back.

Not much you can do about its faltering overclocking capability. you could chance it but you might have it sent back.

are you using stock voltage for 1060/1460?

seems high memory clocks if you are, most I can do on my msi are 1050/1375 at stock volts

could be memory crapping out?

iv tried it on stock volts and tried rasing them, also tried it right upto 1.25v which is the highest msi afterburner will let me. still does the same :/.

dunno what todo :(

do you think its worth taking cooler of and applying new compound ?

i know its not over heating, but maybe it will help ?

also i do have some little blue heatsinks i could maybe put on the memory chips ?

it should still overclock fine imo,esp if temps are fine

no point polishing a turd

I would wait and see if it gets worse or try your luck with rma and say it won't even mildly overclock

plus if they spot you've removed the cooler and messed, all the more reason for them to dismiss an rma

true mate, think i will try my luck, and mention it cant handle a small OC.

iv just read on the net that XFX don't mind OC apparently so shouldnt be a problem.

we shall soon find out!

thanks a bunch wazza

Had my card tested today,, left it at a local shop near me and he said its fine. just wont do a good OC. he had it running all day at 1050/1450 and was sound. so maybe i just got a bad one from the bunch :(

If it was running a high OC stable before then it could be other things. Try lowering your CPU overclock in case that's a bit too high or unstable. It could also be a strain on your PSU to have both overclocked.

i tried lowering CPU clock to 4.4 and did same thing. but i never tried it at stock setting :/.. will try in abit.

also, if my PSU isnt big enough, how come it started fine at 1150/1550 then iv had to bring it down slowly ? down to the point where there is no point overclocking it lol
