hi

i really think my cpu bottlenecking my 2900 , or maybe it could be my nforce motherboard..

my nforce motherboard is abit silly because my normal cpu voltage is 1.40v but if i set it to that in the bios the vcore goes to 1.52v which is too high. but the cpu vid is 1.40v, if i set the cpu voltage to 1.35v in the vcore goes between 1.40v - 1.45v which is right but the cpu vid is 1.35v and if i try uping the fsb alittle the system just goes off..

i've never had the cpu vid on my old motherboard.

Run a benchmark @ 1680x1050 Gareth. Leave performance at default though. The proper way to run 3dmark06 is with performance I know but I'm just swapping cards to help you out. I'll use 7.10's and run at 847Mhz on the core and 1000Mhz on the memory.

Please tell me if you are going to do it first though?, as I'll have to remove this Nvidia card, run driversweeper etc and then run the tests and do it all again for to get the card back in lol. I just don't want to do it and you decide to bugger off or something lol.
im using the free version of 3dmark06 i don't think it allows to up the res?

when are the next amd cpu's will be released? and will they work in the am2 motherboards?

Looks alright doesn't it? Can you up the CPU clock at all and re-test? That'd no doubt shed some light. What sort of timings are you running your memory at?
I'm with you on the CPU bottleneck front, doubt it'll be a massive hinderance just in this bench.
wish i could up the cpu but the motherboard won't let me as i said above..

my memory is x4 1gb ddr800 5-5-5-16

Phenom should work fine on AM2 provided bios updates are released for your board, I'm sure Asus have already put out a couple of bios' supporting Phenom cpu's. Maybe I made that up or dreamt it...
Any chance your memory will do 4-4-4-16 Gareth?
my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 v2 because my asus m2r32-mvp bios got messed up but hopefully i can rma it, it really was a great motherboard..

Is it performing better in games than the 2x 2600xt's though? I wouldn't worry too much about 3d mark 06.

Matthew
yes it is better...

grrrr, now gigabyte think maybe my motherboard is faulty because the vcore is running to high when set on normal....

does anyone know what's cpu vid? when set to normal which = 1.40v, the vcore goes to 1.52v which isn't right

CPU VID is usually just the voltages for the CPU. CPU VID StartUp is the voltages needed until you're past POST (I think) and CPU VID Special Control is for adding certain voltages that aren't reachable with the spacing between increments.
whatever the cpu vid is set on it seems to add between 5% - 10% on the vcore which is so stupid... e.g if the cpu vid is set to 1.35v , the vcore is between 1.40v - 1.46v . but if the cpu vid is set to normal = 1.40v, the vcore is between 1.46v - 1.52v....

that the same problem you had before dude?

same problem since i had this gigabyte motherboard

damn, that is a mofo, have you applied for an RMA on the asus?

also you got anywhere with Bioshock btw?
i've emailed asus last night so hopefully ill get a reply tomorrow.. i've only had it 7 months and it as a 3years warranty.. i took the motherboard to the retailer where i bought it from but they won't do anything without me paying which i'm not going to do because the motherboard is still under warranty ..

basicly this what happened, sometimes the system won't post, all the fans and lights come on but no beeps and no picture on the monitor, the first time it happened was about 4 months ago, it took a day for it to come back working, then after about 2 months the thing happened again. so i tried updateing the bios to 906 thinking it was that but it failed to flash so i tryed again but that time chinese text came up something like a error message so i restarted the system then the bios recovery kicked in so i put the motherboard cd in, it found it and it said flash complete "please turn off power and power back on" when i did that i got no post, no beeps, just a black screen. the same as the first and second time it happened.. i tryed putting in 1 ram stick, a different cpu, a different psu, a different graphic card, also cleared the cmos many times but still nothing....

as for bioshock they sent me a unlock code and a revoke tool for the future..

i will ask my other half on the warranty things. She is a trainee lawyer. I would kick up a stink at shop.
at first they said they'll test the motherboard so i said ok ill leave it with them then 2 days i got a phone call from them saying it's working but if it still didn't work i should take the whole case to them, so i got the motherboard back then i set it all back up in my case and guess what, nothing happened so i took the whole case to them and i told them "they are liers, i know 100% they didn't test it" then they was saying oh maybe its my hardware or software and i know 100% it isn't my hardware because i tryed different hardware in it and also the hardware works in my gigabyte motherboard. then they said it'll cost me for them to check it again which i know they didn't check it in the first time...

You'll be fine m8. They'll be looking for marks on the board and such. If you had removed the chipset cooler and applied your own thermal paste then they could use something like that to try and not cough up but not for changing parts about to see if you can get it to work. It's what it's designed for.
so updateing the bios wouldn't be included in the CID?

Only if you updated a BIOS from a 3rd party as BIOS changes are needed for some hardware. Like as in older skt939 boards needed to be booted with a single core CPU, flash the BIOS to include the X2 dual core and only then could people use their new CPU. I never got affected but all those poor people who bought a dual core and a motherboard to be told they need another CPU to make it work lol.
i've always updated the bios using the bios's from asus site ... ive tryed a x2 4200 the a x2 6000 in but still nothing. i know the x2 4200 is included the first release bios so it can't be that..

would beta from asus site be 3rd party ?

I've never actually used or even seen a 3rd party BIOS for a motherboard but I was just listing the only time that a BIOS update could be classed as CID.

When you get the board back I'd maybe start and learning to overclock manually as in memory speed, timings and voltages. It's much easier this way (I find) as I don't always trust the motherboard. I would however trust a motherboards settings if I had worked out a good overclock and the auto function put it to the same settings or really close to what I found stable.
the asus m2r32-mvp is a great overclocker on auto setting , it does the vcore perfectly. just up the fsb then it automaticly up's the vcore to what it needs.. also on the memory..

Hmmm, if in the BETA's information (read me file) it stated that using that BIOS would remove you from the warranty terms then maybe?. Just install a proper BIOS again. I'm not sure if they'd be able to tell.
there's no read-me files in any of the asus bios updates. and all it says on the site is "note, BIOS update is only recommended when experiencing technical difficulties with your system, And is not recommended to be performed regularly.

Moreover, due to the nature of BIOS update, there is certain level of dangers involved. BIOS update must be performed with extreme caution . During BIOS update process, your system must be maintained without interference or power loss to prevent unexpected damage.

In case of BIOS update failure, please follow instructions in your User's Manual for guidelines on BIOS recovery via CrashFree BIOS. In the event that BIOS recovery is not recoverable via CrashFree BIOS, please contact your place of purchase for further assistance on BIOS recovery."

As for your board being a great overclocking board. I don't doubt that for a second but even so, I'd still be checking it manually. All you do is stick the settings at what your motherboard stuck them at and then do a stress test to see if all is stable. If having a stable system is what your after then I don't think doing this is much of a hassle for peace of mind.

well i can get to 3.45ghz on auto settings very stable.. i didn't try higher..

just a quick off topic Gareth, any updates at your end matey, as I just got on lunch :)

shes not given me them back yet. i think shes doing this just so i gonna buy something for her like a £150+ bag.

LOLOL the brutal world of bribary, was she cool about it when you mentioned the situ tho? say pretty please from me or summin lol
well i know what she want, she keeps talking about a hand bag which is £189. she already got over 80 bags, why on earth does she need another one... tonight i will sweet talk her but no bag lol....

i asked her about them this morning and she just looked at me then she just sit watching the tv,

my cpu was bottlenecking my 2900. now i have my new MSI K9A2 Platinum i can overclock my cpu. i clocked it to 3.4ghz (3405 MHz) but i think it do a lot more because the temp was only at 41c underload on air... heres my 3dmark06 results... im guessing maybe it's still bottlenecking abit..

i must say this motherboard is great!!! and i would recommand to anyone.. its easy to overclock the cpu, memory, timings because it can be done from within windows , no need to go in to the bios to do it
