is my cpu bottlenecking my 2900? or something else?

Phenom should work fine on AM2 provided bios updates are released for your board, I'm sure Asus have already put out a couple of bios' supporting Phenom cpu's. Maybe I made that up or dreamt it...
Any chance your memory will do 4-4-4-16 Gareth?
my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 v2 because my asus m2r32-mvp bios got messed up but hopefully i can rma it, it really was a great motherboard..

i've been reading the Phenom are socket am2+ and 1207+

AM2+ should be backwards compatible with AM2, just missing HT3 and the awesome power saving features...
I guess we wont really know until they are released and benched how they perform*, and it'll no doubt take a while for the bios files to be released, to drop the chips into AM2 motherboards. Time will tell.

*There's tons of hearsay, predictions, lies etc out there... Might aswell just wait.

Edit: You should try manually setting your mem timings though, it's always good for the AMD's to have lower timings.

Is it performing better in games than the 2x 2600xt's though? I wouldn't worry too much about 3d mark 06.

yes it is better...

grrrr, now gigabyte think maybe my motherboard is faulty because the vcore is running to high when set on normal....

does anyone know what's cpu vid? when set to normal which = 1.40v, the vcore goes to 1.52v which isn't right

that the same problem you had before dude?

I couldnt see your CPU bottlenecking the system tbh...could be wrong tho, i would think that mine would being a 3800+ x2 but 6000....naa :)

hi mate

i've been having heart and back problems. that's why i've been in hospital...

Sorry to hear m8. I wish you all the best in your recovery ;).

im using the free version of 3dmark06 i don't think it allows to up the res?

Aye?, Damn!. Ach well :).

CPU VID is usually just the voltages for the CPU. CPU VID StartUp is the voltages needed until you're past POST (I think) and CPU VID Special Control is for adding certain voltages that aren't reachable with the spacing between increments.

whatever the cpu vid is set on it seems to add between 5% - 10% on the vcore which is so stupid... e.g if the cpu vid is set to 1.35v , the vcore is between 1.40v - 1.46v . but if the cpu vid is set to normal = 1.40v, the vcore is between 1.46v - 1.52v....

that the same problem you had before dude?

same problem since i had this gigabyte motherboard

damn, that is a mofo, have you applied for an RMA on the asus?

also you got anywhere with Bioshock btw?
i've emailed asus last night so hopefully ill get a reply tomorrow.. i've only had it 7 months and it as a 3years warranty.. i took the motherboard to the retailer where i bought it from but they won't do anything without me paying which i'm not going to do because the motherboard is still under warranty ..

basicly this what happened, sometimes the system won't post, all the fans and lights come on but no beeps and no picture on the monitor, the first time it happened was about 4 months ago, it took a day for it to come back working, then after about 2 months the thing happened again. so i tried updateing the bios to 906 thinking it was that but it failed to flash so i tryed again but that time chinese text came up something like a error message so i restarted the system then the bios recovery kicked in so i put the motherboard cd in, it found it and it said flash complete "please turn off power and power back on" when i did that i got no post, no beeps, just a black screen. the same as the first and second time it happened.. i tryed putting in 1 ram stick, a different cpu, a different psu, a different graphic card, also cleared the cmos many times but still nothing....

as for bioshock they sent me a unlock code and a revoke tool for the future..

ah well, hopefully ASUS will pull something out the bag for ya :)

Good skills on the Bioshock front.....i will buy it one day, demo was ace!

I have been scratching my head all day (bored at lunch) looking at Am2 and C2D chips......dangerous!

Ahhhh another AMD user; it's a small club aint it mate. ;)
Shame about your mobo, but once its sorted you should be able to get a bit more juice out of it. I've got mine up to 3.33, it will go to 3.45 but terribly unstable - I think my motherboard is on it's limit of overclocking.

I've seen one of these chips running at 4Ghz but with uber cooling, higher clocked RAM and I assume a much better motherboard than my GB M57SLIS4.
I think I managed to get upto around 3.15 before I had to alter voltage though. RAM timing were an issue though and had to seek some advice on best timings to set.

Up to 13035 on 3DMark06 but I always have that feeling of wanting more. lol

I would kick up a stink at shop. They had to agree with asus to sell by there warranty rules most likely. They should cough up really

i will ask my other half on the warranty things. She is a trainee lawyer. I would kick up a stink at shop.
at first they said they'll test the motherboard so i said ok ill leave it with them then 2 days i got a phone call from them saying it's working but if it still didn't work i should take the whole case to them, so i got the motherboard back then i set it all back up in my case and guess what, nothing happened so i took the whole case to them and i told them "they are liers, i know 100% they didn't test it" then they was saying oh maybe its my hardware or software and i know 100% it isn't my hardware because i tryed different hardware in it and also the hardware works in my gigabyte motherboard. then they said it'll cost me for them to check it again which i know they didn't check it in the first time...

I would say it seems they are totally trying to slack it off, I would just read up online on your customer returns rights on that one. You will more than likely find they are in a position to honour the replacement, have a look matey.

My other half cant really say anything on it, not something she knows about.

well i've received a email from asus. they said they will send it to the check and repair service for a free repair as long as the board is not CID (i.e.customer induced damage) do u guys think what happened http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10425973&postcount=29 would be under the CID?

You'll be fine m8. They'll be looking for marks on the board and such. If you had removed the chipset cooler and applied your own thermal paste then they could use something like that to try and not cough up but not for changing parts about to see if you can get it to work. It's what it's designed for.

so updateing the bios wouldn't be included in the CID?

so updateing the bios wouldn't be included in the CID?

Only if you updated a BIOS from a 3rd party as BIOS changes are needed for some hardware. Like as in older skt939 boards needed to be booted with a single core CPU, flash the BIOS to include the X2 dual core and only then could people use their new CPU. I never got affected but all those poor people who bought a dual core and a motherboard to be told they need another CPU to make it work lol.

i've always updated the bios using the bios's from asus site ... ive tryed a x2 4200 the a x2 6000 in but still nothing. i know the x2 4200 is included the first release bios so it can't be that..

would beta from asus site be 3rd party ?
