I removed my e6300 from my motherboard and cleaned it using alcohol and cloth (just the surface of the heatspreader cos I needed to re-appy the thermal paste) This isnt my first time to do this.

When I put it back my computer simply wont work. It does power up but there is absolutely nothing displayed on the screen. Even the big "DS3" (my mobo is a p965-ds3) logo is not shown when you just power on a computer. It just stays blank no matter what I do.

I transfered the CPU to a friends rig, and it did the same thing.

Is the cpu dead? Because I can not think on what I did wrong.

Unless you let the alcohol leak into the processor or underneath it whilst cleaning I can't see what you've done wrong unless you zapped it with static.

Try clearing your CMOS. You motherboard will detect a change of CPU, even if its the same when it has been removed.

Edit - just noticed its not working in your friends pc too....er....could be a duff cpu. What beep codes are you getting?

Is there supposed to be a certain beep when the cpu doesnt work? There was no beep. The computer simply powers up, with no output at all.

Quite likely m8 if not working in two known good boards, didja clear CMOS when you reisntalled it? sorry, might've zapped it with static. Usually no beeps with a duff CPU in most boards as its basically 'brain dead' without one.

I do not know how to clear the cmos.. How do I do this?
And by the looks of it its already dead =(
Now I need to buy a new cpu. Any suggestion? My e6300 was a good clocker. They dont sell e6300s anymore.

Take out the CMOS battery for 15 or so minutes then put it back in.

I think it's dead...It doesn't work in yours, it doesn't work in your friends motherboard, which is obviously working...

You won't get post beeps either, as you can only get post beeps when the cpu/motherboard is working...Otherwise it will just turn on and do nothing, just spin up basically.
