Is my CPU on the wobble...?

I have a E7200 running which has run happily at around the 4.0 mark for the last six months. After turning on the PC last week I got the old "over clock failed" message. All the settings are the same as before, speed step enabled ect...
When I run cpuz and prime 95 the cpu won't go above 2.4.! I have tried clocking it in auto and tried locking the multiplier at 9.5X400 but it still won't go above 2.4!

Whats the deal.? Do cpu's do this.?

More importantly, what's the vcore? These are 45nm cores and do not like a lot of voltage. This is showing the exact same symptoms as my first E8500 when it degraded.

try pull out the cmos battery for a min then put it back in to reset everything

I take it that's not going to kill everything then.?

Will look at the Vcore when I get home.

Should be fine to pull out the battery. There also should be jumpers for re-setting everything.

I'd be pretty wary with sudden instability, scale everything back and Prime it.

well as long as you dont do it with the PC plugged in you will be fine. Pulling out the battery should set everything back to default then hopefully you should be able to redo your overclock.
