been having awful problems with my pc of late. Did a windows reinstall the other day - plugged in my 2 other drives after that and only one fired up. I thought it could be a mobo/bios problem. Put my third disk into and enclosure and it appears as having a RAW filesystem. Fired machine up later and the disk didnt appear in my computer although it was listed in device manager. Decided to try other disk in enclosure and it worked fine so no enclosure problems.
Put the culprit disk back into pc case and tried every combination of connections possible. Not once did windows load - it came to the windows login screen then went a fussy black screen. No BSODs though. Anyone have a clue what might be up? This is really getting up my wick. The disk is an old Seagate 7200.8 series 300gb. 2 years old max id say.

thanks in advance

hi rpstewart i ran the seagate tools and the drive wasn't detected.. its in a usb caddy at the moment. Now when I load up windows it shows up as drive H: but when I click on it it appears empty. I have tried going into the disk management but just my two internal disks appear in it. The filesystem is showing RAW. Any ideas? Does it sound like an RMA job? Im sure it has to be within warranty still.

yeah i did try that but the drive isnt detected in bios nor in disk manager! I can only see a drive H when its in the caddy. I really am thinking its gone - just my luck!

just to add the latest report on this - tried this external disk in my MBP and it worked fine although it did crash the finder eventually. Tried it back in pc and it says usb device not recognised. Then pc randomly switched off and wont power up again! Would it be a dodgy disk, and mobo, and psu??! This is getting beyond a joke.. im meant to be doing uni assignments and this is happening to me!
