is my drive knackered?

hiyas, i got a 160gb and a 500gb both seagates
me 160 is for os and pc junk etc
me 500gb was for me films muisic games etc
went to play some sounds earlier and ive got no file system on me 500gb drive windows is saying and wants me to format it

is it knackered or is there someting stupid im missing

me system is
ep35ds3r e8400 hd4850 liteon dvd and the 2 seagate drives 2gig xms ram xp pro sp2

No file system

I had this problem once. The only way I managed to sort it (kind of) was to boot into Ubuntu (any linux distro will do. Might be a windows method but I as I already run Ubuntu I didn't bother looking), that found the files, copied them all then re-formated. Drive still died completely about 2 months later though.....

downloaded a freeware thing testdisk from software sticky

its saying boot sectors are bad

the program has got a copy option in too so, managed to get most of me stuff offa the drive but ran out of room on me 160gig

just ordered a pair of 320gig samsung f1 drives (was gonna get another seagate but read a few reviews saying they can be noisy depending on the motor inside the 320gig 1`s)

hopefully will get sorted

also ordered a stack of dvd disks so i can back me stuff up now too lol(and not freak out when something dies)
