is my GPU dying?

I have a MSI GTX 980 GPU and today I decided to do a fresh windows install, upon restarting I kept getting "Display driver has stopped and recovered" every 10-15 seconds, I downloaded GPU-Z to see the GPU clocks/load and saw my GPY memory/core were 1800 and fluctuating a few hundred below that but not really moving down. I then decided I'd reinstall windows again, to rule software conflicts out, now my card idles at around 135mhz/163mhz and idles at 41c the load has stayed at 0 throughout the whole problem though.

After reinstalling windows again I installed GPUZ right away, and everything appeared normal, however as soon as my PC has been on for around -10minutes I get display driver has stopped and recovered every 20 or so seconds, and my corememory clocks go to around 1700 again.

Is the card dying?

Tried older drivers, and the latest, same problem with both.

Did you allow Windows to download all the required GPU related updates, like the .net framework?

Try going into the Windows control panel & see if there are any updates ready to download / install.

Yeah, they're all installed, it did those before the desktop loaded up for the first time.

For the first 10minutes of a reboot everything is fine, then after that I get display driver stopped responding every 15-20 seconds.

GPU sits at 135mhz and 162mhz then suddenly shoots up to 1752mhz and then I get the display has stopped and recovered.

I'm using dispayport to a Gsyn monitor if that helps.

Its on the latest, before I did the first fresh windows install this morning everything was fine, had this card about 4months.

Here you can see where its recovering.

Strangely enough, I took out my Display Port to my Gsyn monitor, and plugged in my TV to the PC via HDMI and the crd hasn't crashed, yet. Could the monitor be at fault?

What are your CPU temps like?

Do you have the latest version of Direct X?

Tried checking device manager?

Not sure if this is true, but I've heard that setting the power management in the Nvidia control panel to 'maximum performance' can help.

I appreciate it's a fresh Windows install, but it may be worth trying DDU.

You mentioned that you've tried different drivers, but which ones?

your core should not jump to 1800.
Stock core should boost to ~1300 during gaming. Even the best over clocking 980's only do ~1600 core.
Overclock too high and the driver will crash

UPDATE: So the card has been running fine after unplugging and reseating the GPU (not really been gaming through, but no driver crashes at desktop..)

The card has never been overclocked for what that's worth, anyway tried H1Z1 today, and got very low framerates, jumping between 4FPS and 80FPS, but in game it was impossible to move (FPS MS was jumping between 800/8000)

I thought OK, might just be a H1Z1 problem, so i launched Rainbow Six Seige (where i always get 60FPS never jumps high or lower) and i had the same problem, jumping from 4fps - 80fps in the exact same pattern.

Restarted the PC, and it was fine for around 20-30minutes, then the problems above came up again.

Maybe its time for an RMA?
