Is my hard disk dead?

Got 2 Maxtors (74GB) in RAID 0...

PC wont boot and for one of them says SMART error

whats SMART and does the above mean the HDD is dead?

Any way to recover data? (i'm assuming since RAID 0, nothing is salvagable from the other one)

A SMART error does suggest one of your disks is, or soon will be, knackered.

And yes, if indeed one disk is toast you have lost everything from both. But of course you knew this was the price you pay for RAID0 and made thorough backups of important data....

thanks, yes I think it is toast... funny thing, I just installed Win 7 a few days back and backed up important data prior to doing so ... maybe it couldn't handle the strain of Win 7 ...
