Ive just got a x1900xt and overclocked it to the xt-x version. But I cant get "need for speed mw" and "age of empires 3" running smoothly, even when i turn the detal, res down and vsync off. is this cos of my hardware is clashing somewhere or do i need 2gb of mem so sort this problem out?

So basically how does your systems run "nfsmw" and "aoe3" with 1gig of memory, cos I have 2 options ....1 to change my 1gb to 2gb of mem or...... 2 to upgrade my sys to a Conroe. The 1st idea is cheaper but not in the long run cos I will need to change the memory when I do upgrade to conroe

With aoe3, Its really stuttery moving the map about  and with nfsmw, it stutters quite a bit in a race but its not unplayable.. like when it dosent stutter its silky smooth

I have a X1800XT, 1GB ram and a X2 3800+ all at stock and it runs NFS:MW at max quality with no stutter at all so yours should be fine.

Check the mem usage in the task manager while playing the game to see if it's going over 1GB.
Did you remove the old drivers before installing the new ati ones when you changed cards.

Don't be silly, it isn't the fault of your CPU.

You dont know it could be 1, 2 or more things thats clashing together, But if I get a Conroe, thats the board, memory and cpu that will need to be change, so that should sort the prob out if the hardware is to blame. But knowing my luck the new cpu, mem or board might not get along with each other

Most likely it is software issue, drivers or settings. It won't be your CPU somehow incompatible with the X1900 XT.

the game loading new objects into the map (trees, buildings, enemy units)? caching maybe?

Probably, but its annoying and shouldn't do it on our systems atleast not with mine and 2gb..

Took me ages to figure out it wasn't my system doing it , it was just the beep game

When I had my 2 6800gts i could put the shadows settings on medium on aoe3 and it use to fix the stuttering prob, but with the x1900xt card, no matter what settings I have the game on, it stutters badly
