Is it a DiamondMax Plus 9?

I'd back up your data anyway as my 2yr old Maxtor has just died. I was lucky in that I managed to recover most of my data using GetDataBack.

If you have SpeedFan you can get a second/better opinion.

Simply go to the S.M.A.R.T. tab, then (after selecting 'Hard disk') click 'Perform an in-depth online analysis of this hard disk'

Hmm, says it the cable. I swapped the cable around with the DVD writer one, still same thing. I'm a n00b when it comes to this, but does the blue side of the cable go into the motherboard?

Well, done that, Realised the floppy cable into the Mobo was a tad loose, pushed it in, and it's stopped with the error reporting. Think that's done it.
