Is my mobo faulty?

Right well i have built my pc and yet another problem hits me... basically...
I have an nVidia nForce 680i - mobo
Intel Quadro 2.66ghz - CPU
BFG 8800 768mb - GFX Card
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX - 4gig of ram
Dual Raptor HDD's
Tagan 900watt PSU

This is being cooled by a titan vanessa heatsink fan, but basically wen i turn the pc on i get no beep to indicate the pc is turned on and i get no signal to my monitor so i cannot access BIOS, or even know if the mobo is working. I have 2 8800 cards and have tried both of them in the pc (seperate times) but still no signal, and no beeps. I am fairly sure the CPU is fine as there are no bent pins on it and i very carefully put the CPU in first when i first got it.

Is this a mobo problem? as i cant believe both my 8800's are faulty, any help to get my pc up and running will be appreciated greatly and a beer will be bought at i31 if the problem is solved

Thanks in advance ppl

Please if any1 knows could they tell me the specific problem IE - Dead mobo/CPU etc, as i will need to return these goods to OCuk. :)

First you need to do some troubleshooting to see just what the problem is. Place an antistatic mat or the foam your motherboard came on onto a hard surface, a book would do to make sure it's raised off the ground.

Install your CPU and HSF then plug the power into the motherboard. Try turning this on and see if it beeps or if your HSF is running okay.

If the fans are running okay then you can move on to installing a single graphics card and seeing if you can get into the BIOS. If not then try the other graphics card. If neither work then it's most likely a motherboard failure. The other possibility could be the CPU but that's unlikely.

If you can then install a single harddrive and DVD drive and try installing windows.

If that works then you can move on to adding the second gfx card, harddrive and any other bits and pieces. Once you have the entire rig working outside the case then you can disassemble it and place it into the case making sure that the motherboard is not shorting against any extra riser screwholes on the case or anything like that.

Fantastic!

Once you have windows installed try putting the rest of your RAM in. If that doesn't work then you'll have to go stick by stick until you find where it stops working. Keep in mind that if there's a problem it could be the RAM slot or the RAM itself so try a different stick in the problem slot if there is one.

Good Luck!

Ok, i went to start my pc up with 2gigs of ram in and no beep or start, i then took the newly input rama nd i have replaced it with 1 of my other sticks, this time it started up. So im concluded to it being 1 faulty stick.

Another question now, i had 1 of my HDD installed allf ine with windows on, now i want to connect my other 1. Iv plugged it all in and in BIOS it has recognised it, but when iv logged onto windows and checked my computer, its only showing my main HDD (Drive C) . How do i set my other HDD as Drive D?

Right click on My Computer, go to Disk Management and see if it is showing up in there, it most likely just needs to be formatted. If it's black then you just have to right click and set up a new NTFS partition and do a quick format on it.

I'd RMA the 2 sticks of RAM that include the dodgy stick. You'll have to survive with just 2GB for now ;)

Glad you got it all up and running good. Can't wait to see some benchmarks from dual GTX and quad core :)

Yes sorry, Both HDD's are working perfectly, enjoying the 10,000RPM ;)

Only problem iv come across is that when ever say i open Counter-strike source and am playing, if i tab out to check my CPU temps (Core Temp program) my pc seems to jsut restart, no freezeup just a clean restart.

I am going to take the HSF off today and relay the thermal paste, could just be a case of overheat on load.

I doubt that CS:S could possibly strain your CPU. Source games are notorious for disliking Alt-Tabbing. Try running the game in windowed mode or use a program like Sensors View that keeps a graph of temperatures.

You owe me a pint ;)
