Hi all

Over the past week my monitor has started up with this on the taskbar 1st pic. it only happens on a cold boot . Then after about 2 minutes it changes to this, 2nd pic then 3 minutes its ok. It is like it is warming up. It is only on the task bar at bottom off screen, changed pc and cables and 2 gpu's but still same, any ideas if its a problem

I think I had a similar behaviour on a monitor that needed the capacitors replaced. Eventually a friend with a soldering iron and some electronics knowledge saved it and it lasted 5 more years.

Yeah, that hints lot toward capacitors going bad.
Warming up helping is abig hint toward that.
Because while ironically heat is enemy of capacitor endurance, failing capacitor can still work just enough after warming up.

ok thanks guys, dont suppose there is anything I could do is there, wonder if it comes under warranty, its an acer and dont think i have had it for more than 2 years, will find the reciept and see

If it's not under warranty, check if you have anywhere around you anyone with some electronics knowledge. The thing about capacitors is that normally even the untrained eye can spot a bad one as it's normally bulging. Then it's a matter of buying a similar one, removing the bad one and soldering the new one in.

actually had it 2 and a half years so no warranty left. I have phoned around locally but no one wants to touch monitors so its either have a go my self or just wait for it to pack up all together. it goes back to normal after about 10 mins. Bit annoying as that monitor cost me £500 and its going **** up after 2.5 years off use, I like to get my moneys worth when paying £500 lol

Yeah it'd break my heart too to do that to an expensive monitor. Still reach out to Acer, no way a capacitor should burst with 2.5 years of usage.

And maybe there's someone with an youtube video that has replaced a capacitor on the same or similar monitor, might help if you want to give it a try

Now I'm not an expert but while things might be "OK" now because in 10m you eventually get it work, if the capacitor bursts completely then I think there's a chance it may damage your near components, and then it's definitely bye bye monitor
