Basically the same specs as my PC (clocked 2500k + 7870LE) and I play most games fine at 1440p medium-high settings.

Not necessarily, my neighbour did something similar years ago. Gave me his old knackered PC as he'd bought himself a gaming laptop. Oddly enough when I went to fix his laptop for him it was actually lower spec than the PC he'd "dumped" me with.

Only difference was the laptop was Intel, the PC was AMD, that Intel Inside sticker seems to work wonders on noobs.

To be fair I've had a few crazy bargin's over the years. But for what you bought the PC for, you've got a nice rig and shouldn't have too much issues playing most top tier games.
