Is my processor a bottleneck?

Ok first of all, my sig is in my spec...

Now, when i play Metro on DX 10, High settings, on 1920 x 1080 i can get some horrible framerates when in firefights (I am talking 15 fps) And when i play Assassin Creed 1 on max, it gets some poor frames too. I am wondering why this is, as my graphic card isn't the problem. Is it my processor? It's not overclocked.

Looks like a bottleneck to me :(

@stock 2.33Ghz it's a bit sluggish it meets the mid section of the requirements for Metro so you should be fine playing it on med settings and you'll perhaps have to drop the res a little :(

You might just about be okay overclocking on the stock cooler, but personally I'd suggest buying something like this as the minimum. Increasing the FSB can be done in the BIOS, we'll need to know which motherboard you have to give you further advice. :)

No, using an aftermarket does not void the warranty but overclocking does void the warranty I think but then again they can never find out if it was overclocked.

I'd defintely try overclocking your cpu, but at that res with those settings it's going to be more gpu dependant. Metro is after all very gpu intensive even for a 5850.

Try overclocking your cpu though if you can to +3GHz, should help with your minimum fps at least mate.

I'd get the ac freezer pro on offer at the moment if I were you and go for over 3ghz. It's only £17 for a nice performance boost then. I wouldn't risk leaving an overclock on with the stock cooler unless it was a very mild one, but then that defeats the point of doing it as it's not going to be noticeable.

Well i have put it to 2.8 and i have seen a nice boost on Metro, and especially BC2...Quite a large difference too.

Temps are:

CPU - 50 degrees
Mobo - 38 degrees

How are these temps? Good? Bad?

Are those idle or load cpu temps mate? Use coretemp or realtemp to find out your actually core temps as that's what matters.
