Is my router causing the connection problems to NTL FTP?

I'm trying to connect to the NTL FTP upload site via SmartFTP but I am getting the following message:

"An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine"

I haven't tried connecting to this site in a while and I suspect it could be to do with the new WRT54GS wireless router I recently installed. If so how can I get round this?

Could be NAT breaking things. Tried it without the router?
Yeah just tried turning off router and plugging cable modem straight into computer but I get the same error message. So I think that establishes that it's not the router! Also I tried connecting to ftp://upload.ntlworld.com via IE but there's problems with this too.

Does this sound like a problem with ntl rather than at my side? Or is there some software running on my machine that's causing this problem?

can you open the FTP site in IE? Good idea to check connectivity first.

For upload, the router should be ok as NAT would affect inbound stuff but uploads can be on any random port at the origin so long as the destination port is 21.

Maybe also try another program like Filezilla.

Yes I've tried opening the FTP site in IE but I can't get access.

Can anyone else connect to ftp://upload.ntlworld.com ? I'll check when I get home this evening if I still have problems connecting.
