I have a Seagate 2TB 7200rpm Desktop 3.5" ST2000DMZ08 HDD, and it keeps on starting up, shutting down, starting up, shutting down. What could be the issue? I checked the drive with S.M.A.R.T., and it came back as healthy. I checked with short and long generic tests and it came back healthy. I used loads of HDD diagnostics software, and all tests came back as healthy. I even changed the SATA cables with no fix.

I recorded the audio and uploaded it to YouTube, so you guys can hear it for yourself.

****UPDATE*** I fixed it. It was a faulty SATA power cable.

Is this a primary or secondary drive? Try downloading and installing HD Tune (non-Pro, regular version) and leave it running permanently (tray icon) and report back if it fixes the problem.

For clarity: the reason I said leave it running as a tray icon is because it can temporarily (while the program is running) disable parking/sleep on my drives and that stops the clicking and power down/up. It doesn't need to be doing anything, so no need to run the benchmark or scan.

Aight, found out what caused it. It was a faulty SATA power cable. I changed to a different SATA power cable on my modular PSU, and no more booting up and shutting down.
