I have had this Samsung 830 for nearly 3 years. It's been rock solid until recently when windows had a spate of crashes and slowdowns.

Occasionally windows will freeze up on startup too (when the little orbs spin around under the windows logo) - but I will have 0 issues after that.

Infrequently my whole PC will not boot and the motherboard (Z77 MPower) will tell me there is no active partition. In the BIOS both this SSD and my HDD will appear as Chinese characters or not at all. Whereas my 2nd SSD appears correctly. I reset the CMOS on my motherboard and unplug the HDD and 2nd SSD and it works again.

I have noticed that the CRC Error Rate had been rising and was sat around the 4000 mark. I switched SATA cables and my issues seem to go away for a few weeks(note that I am using 3 of these cables) however last night all 3 of the above things happened in rapid succession and this is my new SMART analysis.

Could it be the SSD, the motherboard or dodgy cables?

The SSD is still under warranty for about another 3 months - would this be enough to RMA?

Motherboard is also under warranty but would be much harder to RMA as I have no replacement on hand plus it is sat behind all my WCing components.

have you tried a different sata port? this maybe the next thing to try.

I think CRC errors are communication errors between the SSD and motherboard.

if you have tried a different cable and sata port I would maybe give Samsung a call or e mail and see what they say as if its the SSD you want to get it replaced before the 3 months are up

When I swapped SATA cables, I simply switched this drive and my 2nd SSD around. Different cable, different port and different power plug too.

Could be dying SATA ports if both the HDD and SSD arn't showing. Trying switching the cables out for new ones? Seems to be rather a lot of Mpower Z77 boards dying atm.
