For the last couple of days when I boot up one and I load into windows the auto play screen comes up on my SSD drive as if I have just plugged it in. Well now its juts done it whilst browsing the internet after the computer has been on for a few hours.

So is my SSD dying?

don't think its dying maybe try replacing the sata cable, power cable or try another sata port.

what SSD is it? make sure its running the latest firmware as well.

...pause for dramatic effect.

its an OCz vertex 4 (cringe!) 480GB model. Will try all the suggestions tomorrow.

If there is an updated firmware does it wipe the drive whilst updating? I've never updated an SSD firmware before. Currently backing up all the data i want to keep.

As ED209 suggested, the easiest and very likely problem could be the sata cable. Invest an extra pound or so and get a decent one. I used to have problems with the odd drive doing that and found I was having to re seat them on a regular basis, (I have a lot of drives), so I replaced all my sata cables about 6 or 7 years ago with the best Overclockers had at that time and not had a problem since.
