Is my xbox supposed to be THIS noisy?

My release day 360 was ridicuously loud, got another last March time and thats quieter but still annoyingly loud. Can never use it as a DVD player and whatnot.
 
Of course if it really drives you mad
and you've room
and you don't mind losing the warranty
that Lian Li replacement case is apparently due out soon.

The thing is, it may have an 120mm fan to replace the 60mm fans in the 360 but I don't see what it can do for the dvd drive.

So not much use really.....
 
Just live with it. Trying to make it silent doesn't work. Its the rear fans that are noisy when in dashboard. Ive replaced them with so called silent ones and it still was noisy.

When you start hacking it about your less likely to get it repaired under warranty.
 
Never understood people defending the 360 saying it's "not that loud", maybe they got lucky, but ever 360 I've heard is "loud".

My 360's drive is louder than my PC when I have all it's fans on full whack.

It is 'quite' annoying, no pun intended, but I've recently got some open ear headphones for my pc which Ive started to use playing the 360.
 
Mine is louder than my HP full tower workstation (which is quieter than most home made PCs etc).

Everyone that I have heard is loud. I don't leave a PC and stuff running 24/7 in my house so maybe that is why I notice the noise more than people who leave servers running 24/7 which may increase the ambient noise in their room or change what they consider to be a "normal" noise.

Don't worry fox you still have your hearing.

Many owners now say they can't hear their new xboxs going hell for leather, but they have actually lost those frequencies in their hearing so are going deaf.

My premium is louder than my brothers core, and my 60Gb PS3 is also louder than his 40Gb. Which is really annoying actually! But I come back with the features rant. Take care.
 
My original 60gb was so good, was lovely and quiet and only once did I ever hear it. My second one not so bad, a little louder, but very much acceptable. My 3rd PS3 hits its top fan speed even if I just leave the PS3 on not doing anything, it's incredibly annoying.

However, as my last 2 failed I would rather take it being a little louder and working as it's such a cracking piece of kit. As you say, it has such a rich feature list that it makes up for it in comparison to the Xbox360.
 
Nokkon, that wasn't the point he was making. He was saying that the extra noise is made up for by the fact that he has a premium and a 60GB PS3 with more features than his brothers core and 40GB PS3.
 
My BENQ Core/Arcade is quieter than my Samsung Premium/Pro, but the drive sucks balls, especially for GTA IV.

I've had around 4 different 360's since launch, all containing different hardware to each other, and to be honest I've never really had any issues with noise. Sure the console itself it less than silent, but rarely have I played a game and noticed it above the volume of the speakers (and I don't tend to have it loud).

My rant from another thread on the same topic,

"I've owned a few 360's and they've all been noisy, usually I've just put up with it even though it was distracting, but then when I brought my PS3 the noise from the 360 became too apparent, I would be playing a game on my PS3 with not even a whisper of noise with my TV on low (at night I don't want to wake people), then immediately after I switch the 360 on and I was like :eek:, absolutely unacceptable in my eyes, my PC which is a hell of allot more powerful than the 360 is no where near the volume of the 360 and it has about 8 fans in it, in fact thinking about it, the 360 was the most noisy electrical component I've ever owned bar the washing machine on the spin cycle,

I'm not trying to put the 360 down on purpose, partly why I'm mad is because I love the games on the 360 it's just so annoying that the hardware so sooooo poor, basically playing a game on the 360 comes with so much mental baggage, not only do you have to endure the jet engine noise of the console itself, then you have the noise from the PSU, oh, then you have the noise from the optical drive, oh, then you constantly have worry about getting the red ring of death, even if a menu takes a few seconds longer to appear in your mind you think "well is this it then" and you sit there waiting for the red ring to appear, when it doesn't you rejoice that you console has lasted another gaming session, oh, then on top of that you worry about the drive scratching your games that you've brought out of your hard earned cash, the list just goes on, it's a complete joke, how it even got off the factory line I just don't get seriously."
 
I bet deafening is an over statement, they are loud, but not that loud. My drive is the same, as soon as a DVD spins up its quite loud. I can still hear my TV etc over it fine though, it doesn't interfere as much as others claim to.
