Is PhysX important to you?

Greg, most of those games can have the PhysX forced to run on the CPU, so it's not really the same as missing out on.

Sorry, that was an older post I just copied and pasted. I agree you can run PhysX on the CPU and nope, you are not missing out. Not sure how it runs on the CPU, as I have never tried but from other users, it is a little 'hit and miss'.

I will edit my post.

Physx definitely adds to the realism, and there's no denying it looks awesome when used correctly, but i'm not going to sacrifice performance for it. its good but it's not a deal breaker for me :)

For one i can i dont miss physx on Borderlands 2.

I havent really had the chance to test all the physx games but ingame your minds on other things.

It would be nice at the end of the day if both companies had it, but im not paying nearly £200 more in some cases for it!

Yes, my next system which i will purchasing soon will have a dedicated PhysX card.

Is this as simple as it sounds? i.e. Buy an ok ish (older) nividia card just to run the physX side of things? Would this be possible to run in addition to an AMD card on the same system at the same time?

Borderlands 2 is the only game that i've wished i had an nVidia graphics card. The hybrid PhysX runs like a bag of poop on the CPU crippling fps when using an AMD card. It does look so much nicer with it on high.

You need an Nvidia card and Hybrid PhysX mod.

Good honesty Rossi.

I have 2 Nvidia Physx games, or is that 3? i didn't know Planet Side 2 had Physx, i should look in the settings.

Metro 2033 i do run Physx on max with the CPU and its not a problem, BorderLands 2, which i'm bored with now, i did run Physx on medium, again with the CPU, it was playable but not great.

Physx is ok, but not something i would pay a premium for, nor would i pay a premium for advanced AA, shadows and illumination, which also looks nice and is what you get on AMD titles, but they would work also well on Kepler if they had stronger compute engines.

Dont base your purchase on Physx alone.

It's a nice perk and more usefull to me than eyefinity so this time around for my last card I went Nvidia.

It comes down to the types of games you like to play.

No it certainly wasn't last time I tried it. I swapped in my old 8800 GTX just to see all the supposedly amazing Physx effects in Batman, and was massively underwhelmed. It appeared to be mostly marketing.

If more games used PhysX on the GPU, I could push harder on recommending Nvidia cards (even with the price premium). Sadly there is only a handfull of games that use PhysX, so I find it difficult to push Nvidia cards at their current prices.

From a personbal POV, I like the effects and Batman looks fantastic with PhysX but it is personal tastes and my opinion is not that of others.

I have been thinking about picking up a GTX460 or GTX560 for PhysX. But results are hit and miss.
I kinda wish nVidia did a dedicated PhysX card rage that is designed to work purely for PhysX and can be used along side either an nVidia, AMD or even Matrox cards.
If only.
