is plasma screen burn an issue

i am in the market for a hdtv, i have found a 42" plasma tv for 800quid but ihave been told that the screen will get damaged from the on screen displays on sky and bbc channels. Is this correct? and what type of screen would i need so as not to have this problem?

so if you had a max of £1000 for anew telly inc a stand what would you go for?
plasma or lcd from what i have seen i can either get a 37 in ( lg ) lcd screen or a 42in plasma (hyundai)
