Is rapidshare.com down?

... and have your IP address wind up on thousands of computers? :p

Not if you use the right methods. ;) Not that it really matters anyway, if you illegally download something your ip is on the rapidshare server anyway and will have to be given to the authorities, so it's just as insecure.

Out of all the file sharing sites I have used, rapidshare is by far the worst. There are free sites I have used that max out my connection, allow simultaneous downloads, no bandwidth limits, no waiting times and don't just delete files as soon as someone reports it, without checking the contents first.

Compared to torrents, rapidshare is amazing, combined by one of the biggest forums on the interweb.

My torrent downloads always stay at around 5kbps (bt broadband) even after port forwarding. Rapidshare = win.

port forwarding isnt the only thing you have to do to get decent speed. sometimes its enough, sometimes you have to set up other stuff too.

Rapidshare is much better than torrent imho.

setting the correct number of upload slots/upload speed, max number of connections, DHT, peer exchange etc...

Yeah, a lot of people leave max connections at the default 100, 999 performs much better. And upload is usually set wrong, either to almost zero or unlimited which cripple speeds.

all depends on how popular the file is. For files not very popular then yeah torrent isnt the best option, but for popular files its not hard to max your connection if you have stuff set right.
