Yep, there's some weird jankiness going on depending on how you got into the site. I even tried using an old sky account to reapply for sky q and they really weren't keen to sell it to me, and kept poking me towards stream / glass. It's there if you're not signed in. I had a play around with a friend's puck at the weekend. Fully updated, running the latest software, connected to a Gigabit fibre network. It was just as sluggish as the puck I had last year. When did you last use it?
There was a fairly big update about 4 months ago that sorted out a big long list of issues, as I was in same boat, it was slow, sluggish and constantly having to reboot it etc. Since that new update haven't had any issues and haven't had to reboot it either.

It totally depends on how you use it and what other hardware you're used to. It was perfectly functional but just not smooth. Apps still take a while to load IMHO and lip sync can be completely random when switching between apps.
I just don't like it as a system. It's perfectly fine for a lot of people but I now get much faster, more reliable performance elsewhere. No need for Sky whatsoever.
Apple TV 4K box mainly, but also have a Firestick 4K Max. Both are noticeably quicker than the Stream puck due partly to having all the apps stored locally on the device itself. Sky Stream hosts all apps on Sky's servers so there is always an added bit of latency. What do you use?
I have an apple 4k box and yes it is smoother than the Sky box but it doesn't have sky content(Now Tv doesn't count) so i only use it for youtube/DAZN/renting films.Apple TV 4K box mainly, but also have a Firestick 4K Max. I don't watch linear broadcast TV any more so have no need for the live channel streams from Sky. Everything we watch is app based and I want the quickest, best quality apps I can get, with as clean a UI as possible. FireTV is pretty horrible but I like the speed and simplicity of tvOS by far. Been very happy with it for the past year. Much more flexible than Stream.
What do you mean NOW TV doesn't count? All it has is Sky content because it's owned and run by Sky.I hab an apple 4k box and yes it is smoother than the Sky box but it doesn't have sky content(Now Tv doesn't count) so i only use it for youtube/DAZN/renting films.
I prefer the sky stream ui. I don't want to faff about with VPN's , i just want to turn on the tv and watch stuff. What do you mean NOW TV doesn't count? All it has is Sky content because it's owned and run by Sky.
I now get all the HBO stuff direct from the Max app via VPN. Cost about £74 for a year of Premium - you get it all at the correct frame rate, in 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos with tons of movies too. So much better than anything Sky/NOW can offer.
Fair enough, but I can just "turn on the TV and watch stuff" too. The VPN automatically connects to the appropriate server as necessary so no faffing required. Yes there was a tiny bit of extra setup required when I first set it all up, but I'd much rather do that, pay less and get better quality than pay a premium for Sky's slower, glitchier service.I prefer the sky stream ui. You can use any ISP’s broadband. It just needs to be fast and very stable. The Stream pucks are very sensitive to fluctuations and can be glitchy.Does sky stream only work with sky supplied internet, or can you use any internet provider ?
It's Garbage! Whoever over at sky has convinced the leadership that the current strategy is the way to go needs to be given a long holiday on a lovely nature reserve somewhere because they've clearly gone insane. The puck is underpowered and laggy, the UI is fine and the bitrate is terrible - Don't get me wrong, Sky Q isn't perfect either by any stretch of the imagination but it at least isn't completely beholden to the IPTV strategy.Guys - we are moving house soon and , for the first time in years, we are able to get fast fibre (other than Virgin).
We were considering going back to SKY for broadband and TV as the old sky dish used to give better pic quality than my Virgin box however, it seems Sky are only offering Sky stream now?
Whats the picture quality like compared to a sky dish and is it better than Virgin or just the same?
Both are offering very good packages that i quite like
My contract is up in July, and I'm feeling pretty bullish about dropping sky entirely at this point. I feel like i can get a better variety of choice by just paying for netflix, disney et. al and cutting sky and virgin completely out of the picture - I've been hearing rumbles that apple TV might actually be making more heaadroom into adding more variety in their subscription channels this year to compete with amazon prime a little more as well.Up until late last year i had Sky Q and all i ever really watched was F1 and Sky history. When i dumped Q i watched the F1 highlights on channel 4 and Sky History as and add on with Prime.
As the year has gone on, F1 has become better, so i was thinking about Sky Stream to be able to watch F1 live. As Now started to do Ultra boost with Atmos and HDR for £35 a month it really was a no brainer for me, even adding on entertainment only brought is to £42 a month.
That's £30 a month less than i was paying for the same on Sky Q last year. I would say both picture and sound quality is actually better than Sky Q, so a brucie bonus all round.
