Is someone trying to scam me?

Someone just called my mobile claiming I had their phone. They repeated my number and claimed it was theirs!! "What are you doing with my phone?" they kept asking.

I explained that if it was their number I would have been receiving calls for them, which I haven't. They obviously knew my number as they called me.

Their number appears to be a Manchaster number as they didn't hide it.

My only small worry is that yesterday I got had by the koobface virus. I took that machine offline asap for cleaning. I don't believe my number was held in any format that could have been takedn from that PC but who knows!!!

If not then ignore it.

I hung up, at which point they called straight back, but it was a different voice. They didn't sound like they were having any fun either. Sounded oldish. Strange folk those Mancs

Where did you buy the phone? If it was new then obviously they are wrong.

They have probably lost their own phone and remembered the number wrong.

Yep, probably pranked. Although those are some rubbish pranksters - she wasn't very creative, just genuinly sounded convinced I had her phone. If I were doing that prank I would have at least made it funny / more insulting / worthwhile

But if it was a prank you'd have thought they'd hide the number. I googled it and it appeared to be a Dr's number!
