Is SSD really worth it?

How much quicker is an SSD drive over a normal 3.5" HDD? I'm sure I could look up stats, but what's the difference in the real world? How much quicker is it to boot XP for example?

With regards to performance, I would say the new Intel SSD's would be worth it but current ones aren't unless you RAID.

I've worryingly been thinking about trading my 2 x 15krpm SAS drives for one or more Intel SSD drives when they become available (and likely after a price drop).

Yep, that one review showed that most SSDs are just horrible in small random writes...
And Intel SSDs are really expensive.

I'm myself going to get four 640GB WDs for RAID10, that would double STR and give nice boost to random accessing of small files... and includes tolerance against drive failure.
In year or two SSDs should get much more affordable so then I'll just add one for system/programs and keep RAID array for data.

...and a few more for backup I presume?...
