I think Steam sets itself to Autostart when you log on you PC. If you disable this then you'll have no problems.

it used to be a bit of a resource hog, but is a lot better now. It also used to nail my net connection when downloading anything, but got DoD Source off it yesterday whilst playing WoW and didn't notice any difference.

As a portal to new games, it can't be beat, some of the prices on there are so cheap. It's a great way to revisit classics and pick up some new ones. Every PC gamer should have a Steam account.

As said before, I used to have Steam in beta. At this point it was a system hog...but not anymore.

Steam simply put is the future of PC gaming, and Valve are the pioneers of a very easy to use e-commerce gaming industry.

It used to be a bit problematic.

But since I've moved away from very slow internet I've not had a single problem

Any self respecting gamer has been addicted to CS at some point in their life. However, agreed that CSS is a load of tosh.

More on topic, Steam is amazing. It had a few teething problems years ago, but is now as essential as a web browser for myself.

Steam's awesome.

Play a bit of CS:Source, bored now, lets play some TF2. Exit, Open Steam Games, Double click TF2. Lets play, its great. downloads dont really slow down the internet or anything at all, great media files to be added, trailers etc...NOT a recource hog, and is totally efficient.

I don't like it. It just seems like a totally pointless utility that you're forced to install to play HL2 and it's associated mods.

At the very least it should have been made an optional install.

steam is a good way to stop piracy too...well for us that pay for games anyway
