is the 4090 the new 1080ti?

In terms of ability and the possibility of longetivity I would say yes but in relation to price/ability+longetivity then the 1080 ti has it beat hands down. Had the 4090 been 600/700 it would be GOAT of gpu. But at 1800 great card, terrible pricing.

I always though the greatest card ever for me were the 1080ti, ATI 5870, 8800gtx they were the cards I used the longest.
I paid less than half the price of a 4090 FE for a 1080ti BNIB Msi Twin Frozr and I thought that was expensive enough

personally i think the 3080FE (ok probably the super variant) was the gpu after the 1080ti to wow me.

I have a 3090 myself and feel no need at all to buy into the 4000 generation, but bang for buck the 3080 smoked it.

yes I got the zotac 1080ti extreme for about 700 which was the upper end. But I do believe there were a few vendors that did 600 offerings.

Is it the fault that the 4090 is 1600 entry price point. No that would the 2080 super and people who paid that premium. Basically green lighting Nvidia to do what they want price wise. Had no one bought it things could have been different.

@bigmike20vt 3080 was terrible. No stock, Nvidia selling it direct to miners whihc created the shortage and pushed the price up, when there was stock it was snapped up by scalpers. Bang for buck? that would have been the 6800 xtx. Better performance than 3080, cheaper, stock availability and more efficient than the 3080. And didn;t run out of Vram (10GB) when playing at 4k res. Ampere was terrible efficiency wise.

Not sure which 3080 card you are talking about. But the 3080 I am on about is the one released by nvidia only for it to be smacked around by the 6800 xtx and then 6 months later was a nasty ginger stepchild 6 months later when the TI came out whihc was even more expensive, less efficient and scalped even more.
