Yep - XtremeGamer is a 'proper' X-Fi. It's not for audiophiles but will suit gamers fine, particularly ones that haven't spent a fortune on other sound hardware.
FWIW, I'm fairly fussy with my sounds, and I just opted for the Xonar DX after reading many reviews and coming to the conclusion that it was superior for music and good for games. With all this EAX stuff, do I really want to hear 64 different channels of voice? The xonar seems very capable of good quality game sound that should definitely surpass that of onboard - so Im happy with that as long as my MP3's and video sound great.
It's fine for gaming. I used to own an X-Fi. For music, this thing pee's all over it. For gaming, I haven't noticed any difference! lol. So it's alll good. Mind you, I only run a 2.1 Hi-Fi setup. So for people with surrond sound PC kits.... it maybe a different kettle of fish.
Awesome card though, I'm still impressed with it (I have the D2X version).
Well it will eventually be on a 5.1 setup, well probably anyway, for now i'm using it for the high end Sennheiser gaming headsets, so trust me, they pick up on everything they can haha
