Is the current rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester City, the best?

What do you think?

I personally think that the rival between arsenal /Manchester United was a bit better because not only was those teams trading blows for titles etc, they literally were fighting on and off the pitch!

Not hugging and kissing each other like city and Liverpool do hehe.

What are your thoughts?

Best rivalry in the premiership in terms of top two competing for top of the league?

Depends on your definition of rivalry.

If it was by definition SAF Vs AW era, City v Liverpool does not even compare. They walk around shaking each others hands, doing each others make up and hair.

Best as in results? Atmosphere? Competition?

Once again this is the press trying to whip up a storm, it's the best from a standard and respect for each other perspective but for blood and thunder Man Utd vs Arsenal (see Fergie vs Wenger) is better but then go back to the old Leeds vs Chelsea from Billy Bremner era and that wipes the floor with the Fergie vs Wenger rivalry, it's just the press trying to convince everyone that football only existed since 1992 and is currently the greatest ever era, wait another 20 years and there will be another greatest debate conjured up

As good as City are, they are quite stale and boring at the same time, a bit too robotic really.

I don't think this current rivalry is anywhere near the best historically. The quality of football is, but there's far more to it than that.

If you're referring to the quality of football then it's far greater than anything we've seen in my lifetime but in terms of dislike etc then it's not close. Our mini rivalry with Chelsea around the 2005-2008 period, when we kept facing each other in the CL felt more hostile than anything with City.

Not even close as a rivalry, as that encompasses many elements.

The standard, however, is the best it's been between two clubs in the premier league. In the last two matches in particular, I've had similar vibes to those Barca vs Real games when both teams were at their peak.

To have a nasty rivalry you need at least one of the two sides to have some real ****houses in their side and neither us or City have. The way football has moved on, there's fewer and fewer really physical players and big challenges that create flashpoints either.

In terms of the standard of football and how good both are - yes. Drop either of these two in any period in history and they will dominate the PL. There'd be no competition.

But they're too friendly with each other, players and fans get along perfectly and there's an admiration of the other side rather than hostility. I think part of it is because both clubs really hate Man United :D

One could say this is a greater form of rivalry, more sportsmanlike than the nasty types. Kind of similar to the tennis rivalry between Nadal/Federer/Djokovic.

Depends on the era. The Old Firm rivalry from the 70s to 90s was a different league (badoom tish) to anything in England, both on and off the pitch

No it’s pretty uninteresting all things considered

Cool that Klopp and Liverpool can kinda keep up but ultimately just feels like a cool exciting resurgence vs an uninteresting sports washing club (big fan of Pep’s footballing achievements but bit of a tool how he’s handled stuff)

If we were having this period vs manu or something it’d certainly be more interesting but utterly cancerous from the fans

Assuming we're talking Premier League only, I'd say MU-Arsenal probably the bigger rivalry, although the standard of football competition probably wasn't quite as high (peak MU and peak Arsenal were both extremely good, but they didn't really peak together for a few years running like MC/Liverpool have). Arsenal vs MU always felt like a real event, tension in the build-up, banter and discussion in the days afterwards etc.

Let's ask all the Man City fans what they think......
.... tumbleweed.
This was going to be my point aswell. A rivalry needs to be 2 way and Man City has 0 support.

It's all the work place banter etc. I've worked in several companies with 100 male employees and never knowingly encountered a man city fan. When i used to go to pubs to watch games they'd be non existent or quietly hiding away somewhere.

They're a fake club, lots of money but nothing else. Maybe it will be different in 10+ years when glory supporting kids have grown older but honestly i'd rather they just bugger of back into obscurity.
