Is the current rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester City, the best?

There is no rivalry. You walk into a pub and start talking football or in the workplace and there is not a single Man City fan to discuss it with.

Actually I do tell a lie in my 35 years of existence I have only known of my year 6 teacher and one of the old Engineers that I used to work with that supported Man City. Even most of the kids at my daughters school support the teams their father did or you get those weird kids that support Barcelona.

Not by a long shot but can't remember two teams as dominant in the same era.

Chelsea/United 08-12 were very dominant. 2 Champions league wins and 5 final appearances between them. The difference with Pool/City now is that the rest of Europe is just really poor by comparison where as during that 08-12 period you had two top Madrid sides, Barcelona and a really strong Bayern.

Always the case when Liverpool do well isnt it. The rest just arent up to it.

This isn't a golden period for football in general is it though. This Liverpool and City side would have been at the top regardless of era but the traditional powerhouses of Europe aren't the same as they have been. A few have been replaced but many have had a bad few years or decade.

RM
Barca
United
Arsenal
Juve
AC/Inter
Bayern (arguably)

All of them are well below their former best.

Right but now you have state funded clubs like City and PSG. I mean just look at the outlay City will spend on Haaland, its obscene.. Thats who we are competing with. In the last 5 years Madrid, Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool have won the CL with Madrid winning it twice.

Rivalry that sticks in my mind

Man United vs Newcastle (Keegan and his meltdown)
Man United vs Arsenal (The mind games each manager were playing)
Chelsea (Jose’s 1st term) against almost everyone else he was playing that week.

Whilst the current City vs Liverpool games are high quality football and nice to watch, that’s about it. Just 2 teams at the top of their game trying to win. There are nothing more to it off the field that adds to it, they are all very respectful at each other, there doesn’t seem to be any anger that you see in the matches between United and Arsenal.

Good sportsmanship but not as entertaining.

Oh of course and City are chumps compared to PSG when it comes to these things. Difference is that City have a good plan for domination. I would be interested to see how much the Haaland deal actually comes out to all said and done. Wages, fee, backhanders, singing on fee, agents fees etc. I would wager about £300m+

Do they have a good plan? Did you see their squad at the weekend?

Throwing hundreds of millions around is a plan but it isnt a good one as its not sustainable.

70 million to Dortmund
70 million to his agent and dad
26 million a year for 5 years (before or after tax, who knows!)
250 million at a minimum, which is a drop in the ocean for the club that has the highest commercial income in world football (despite not being able to put bums on seats for any game they play)

cant beat the recent utd vs arsenal days, roy keane and vieria squaring up in the tunnel etc they were the days

and fabregas throwing pizza at fergie :D
