Is the end imminent for AMD?

Looks like a handy little machine

It's what I have, and that dock's pretty poor, I opted for a coolermaster wave stand, a 32GB SD card and a wireless mouse and keyboard with Belkin angled USB adaptors for the same price :p

EDIT : I know what's happened. Someone's thrown W8 on the W500 and Slashgear think it's a different model >.<

It's also dated June :p

You'd almost think I hadn't spent a few days trying to find a tablet I wanted that was an AMD APU.

The device is good, the dock idea is a brilliant idea, but poorly implemented.
With the wave stand I can have it stood up without having to keep it stuck into the keyboard, I've also got my 2 full USB slots without them also powering up a keyboard, my keyboard and mouse have their own power.

It's definitely a good device.

There's a lot of confusion regarding the W500, and it's successor.

But what you've linked to isn't its successor, it's the W500.

This is the successor ; http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/model-datasheet/LE.RK502.023

The data sheet says C-50.

The spec is exactly the same as the Acer W500 though.

Acer also have a W7 series Iconia too.

So it looks like that Copal made reference prototype is the only Trinity based tablet seen so far. However,it would not surprise me if Acer is the first to release an AMD based Windows 8 tablet.

Lets hope Jaguar is good!:p

I can put on a pen on this :p

Swappable battery sounds nice, but can't help but think it's going to cost like 600 at least.
I paid 250 for my C-50 based tablet.

I have seen the offer - that was nearly half the RRP!!

So for below the price of a Windows 8 RT tablet you can an x86 based tablet and plonk on Windows 8 for £25.

Although that escapade has highlighted how hard AMD are making it to have their products readily available, they need to get out there :(

You can see the problem with Trinity thin and light laptops too, although the Ultrabook fund also has not helped at all.

Or, if you've got a plethora of Windows 8 MSAA keys (Raises hand) it's 250 quid and Windows 8 X86.

Sure the RRP of the tablet was 550 originally (Which is why it flopped)

You can see the problem with Trinity thin and light laptops too, although the Ultrabook fund also has not helped at all.

Agreed, although I'm pleased to say Samsung have quite a nice range of Trinity based laptops, they're readily available from a big name, which is what I want.

Ouch since last night (after this thread was posted) AMD's share price took a nose dive and it was already going off a cliff... confidence in the company is really low.

Yes i think AMD are finished. The x86 market is not the place to be right now for a struggling company.

- AMD have lost all segments of the desktop market.

- x86 has lost the mobile/tablet market, i doubt that nokia + intel + windows phone 8 will change this, ARM manufacturers with iOS/android are too entrenched at this point.

This dosent leave AMD with anywhere to go really. They still compete in the graphics space but how long will that last with the current financial situation is anyone's guess.

Yesterday I would have said they were in a dangerous position but not on the ropes yet - but with todays changes and a couple of new statements posted an hour ago (probably in response to the earnings conference call yesterday) I reckon anyone with an investment in the company is gonna be looking to cut their losses and run while they still can which will pretty much gut them. I'd definitely be feeling pretty nervous right now if I had money tied up in the company.

What's the likely future then? Bought by some venture capitalists and "streamlined"? Sold off piecemeal? Or just doors closed and never heard of again?

Sheesh AMD is plummeting today - looks like its having a bit of a knock on effect on nVidia's share price to. Since I posted about it last another big chunks been taken out of it and it shows no signs of stabalising.
