Is the latest version of Firefox utter garbage for anyone else?

Firefox has been pretty slow and clunky for me recently. Likes to freeze itself after downloading a file and on first open tends to hang on webpages.

May try Chrome for awhile.

I've never had a major problem with Firefox with any plug-in or any feature. Yeah sometimes it can use some RAM but RAM is there to be used and I have lots of it so I don't even care how much RAM it uses. I laugh when I read comments about programs using a lot of RAM in this day and age. Okay if the person had 2GB RAM or something but the complaints I read are from people who have 4GB+.

It never crashes and is always fast alongside my Chrome install and it has some unique addons that are not available on any other browser so it will remain my primary browser at home and at work.

What annoys me about Firefox is that it doesn't seem to use RAM efficiently. In long sessions, the RAM usage keeps climbing, and when it gets too high the UI starts to become less responsive.

For example, I have GMail and Facebook in app tabs and after a long session, the Facebook tab can take a second or two to respond. Only restarting the browser fixes it, and even that is more difficult than it should be, as Firefox takes ages to release the RAM and end the process after you close the browser.

Chrome uses lots of memory too, but it always stays responsive and the multi-process model means that memory is always freed when you close a tab. I don't mind high memory usage as long as it makes the program faster rather than slower!

Tried Chrome recently but it just doesn't have the addons available that I make use of regularly that Firefox has so I went back.

Before it automatically updated a few weeks ago it was fine but lately it's just been unreliable and horrible. Normally after i've watched a youtube video it just crashes and freezes and I have to kill the task.

Hope it's not just me?

It's gone to crap over the last 6 months. I've not switched to google chrome due to the fact it was becoming so stupid.

Kept getting crashes on iplayer / double playings / invisible playings and random crashes with it too.

I noticed that I kept getting a memory leak in Firefox where it just kept using more and more RAM the longer it was open. For some reason, it doesn't seem to do that so fast now that I'm on the Nightly builds. I would switch to Chrome in a heartbeat if it weren't for the fact that I've come to rely on the Firefox addons.

Try Opera which is what I prefer to both Firefox and Chrome, its getting more extensions by the week, very stable and fast browser IMHO.

It's fine, but I'm failing to see any of these memory usage improvements...

I've had the same issues at home while using Firefox, on Youtube (regular freezes, so I either kill the task or give it a minute or 2 to catch up) I will see how the Aurora build goes while im at work, see if i get any freezes.

Firefox has been absolutely shoddy for a few weeks with me too. Slow, buggy and down right crap! Can't be just my machine as its terrible experience is present on my work computer and laptop and my home PC.

I've had the flash crashing problem for the past few weeks as well. I'm thinking about moving to Chrome and see how that does.

EDIT: Just tried Chrome and it doesn't appear to have a drop down address bar like Firefox and IE. I'd rather put up with the crashes than lose that!

Not had any of the problems mentioned in this thread with Firefox 7, 8 or 9.

Have those of you with freezing tried creating a new profile to see if that fixes it? It sounds like a corrupted database or something to me. Either that or an extension that isn't playing nice.
