Hi,

Is this linksys router any good for 20MB virgin media cable?

I really don't want to faff around with custom firmwares so does the basic one which it comes with stable for 24/7 operations? Seems cheap on deal atm.

only really upgrading mine for wireless use tbh.

will be using wireless occassionally with my laptop and a netgear gigabit switch for all pcs with gigabit.

thanks a lot

The WRT54GL? The stock one should be alright but it'll struggle with torrents or anything that opens a load of connections - it's hardly a faff to install a third-party firmware though...

Do you mean the Router will struggle with a lot of connections? or the default Firmware? as i'm interested in this router myself :p

Could you reccomend a nice and stable one out of the box then that does wireless?

I have a netgear TA-612V which does voip over sipgate and has been very stable.

The WRT54GL is nice and stable, it's just more so with a third-party firmware installed on it - which takes an entire 2 seconds through the firmware upgrade routine on the router's web interface.
Given the price, and how good it is with third party firmware, it's completely retarded to disregard it just because you're better upgrading the firmware on it.

I'm using Sveasoft, but both DD-WRT and Tomato are popular and free.
