Is the PC closer graphically compared to "Next Gen" this time round than ever before?

my bad mega.

Don't get me wrong, the next gen consoles are not bad for the little amount they are, I just think MS/Sony should have tried a little harder with the hardware. I still see the PC gaming market held back by the consoles again. The PC has so much power if it was fully unleashed it would look night and day better. PC's will obviously outshine console graphics, look at the price difference. And its all the other things you can do with a pc game regarding mods and graphic customization.

the ones i quoted wernt the xbox one was a fullsize and the pc one was smaller. after he posted all at the same res or screen size look at the difference literally nothing. even if he adds whatever it wont be much different.

look at the finer details and you'll see it if you really wanted to. Go look again at the pics, compare the shadows, compare the sail lines on the boat in the distance, look at the pixelation around the edges of objects on the PS4 shot etc and dont forget this is only at 1080p with 2xaa for comparisons purposes. Plus the next gen only running at 30fps. What you think 1440p and more AA would look like :p That's the big difference between where the consoles are now and where the pcs are right now. So yes the gap is smaller between the the two hitters, but still a long way off when you think PC's are doing 1440p 60fps+ with more eye candy then either of the consoles will be able to do. And the gap will get bigger and bigger, plus Mantle is yet to surface which sounds promising.

the dragon one on xbox has lean tracking.
most normal games use only the voice part of kinect, which we could do with just a decent mic tbh
think you can do something with glovepie to get voice commands

I thought you could get Kinnect for PC yo?

Fat stacks yo? Lol :p;)

On topic I would say new consoles are indeed underwhelming. I can see this console cycle being shorter. But still it is good the architecture used is very much like the PC which will mean we will get better graphics and engines for PC ports that we then can use on higher resolutions and get more FPS :D

It's not all about graphics but the game. Only time will tell how good the consoles will be. It could just be rehashes of all the last gen games.

PC gaming will have the upper hand with regards to frame rates. I doubt they will all run @ 1080p 60fps anyway. I recon they will be to busy sqeezing as much graphically out of the consoles they will be @ 30fps if that.

It's been commented on a lot already but they seem comparable to a higher spec i5 and something like a 7970 at best. 1080p and maxed bf4 settings isn't achievable on one with a smooth frame rate so to me the launch seems somewhat disappointing when you look at Pc hardware as it stands. These consoles will appear very dated in 3-4 years compared with Pc.

Loads of people that go OF COURSE PC IS BETTER LOL!!!!!!!!

Don't realise that once consoles completely trounced the PC, Back in the Playstation 1, N64, Dreamcast days the PC couldn't hope to match the consoles when they first got realised, 3d cards for the PC were in the very early days and programmers just couldn't get the hang of getting decent quality games for them.

Hah, how old are you? ;) I had a rage pro playing Tomb Raider on my Pentium 120 when everyone else was playing at 320 on PSX :) PC has always been better at the top end of the scale.

ahh the 3dfx card days :D. I remember the days when Arcade games looked better than anything you could get in the home. Used to love wasting my money on those.
I still think the ps4 especially will be able to keep up for a while purely just because of the 8GB of ram it has Plus looking at killzone, graphics are already awsome and are only going to get better so i would imagine a lot of people will be very happy with those graphics for years to come.

What was the first pc game available that actually required a gfx card, first I had was resident evil and I'm fairly sure the card was 4mb...

I remember hating the PR CPUs (Pentium Rated) such as Cyrix. Thank god that's been consigned to the history books. I still have a S3 Virge around here and I remember adding a Diamond Monster 3DFX-2 card to it with 8MB RAM.

Back to topic though I'd say I've been with the PC since DOS 6.11 and I can't think of, at any time, the graphics have been beaten if you have a high enough system.

To me consoles have always been about gameplay and more social gaming (i.e. mates around playing PES, etc.) than about trying to compete with the PC. The PC moves on far quicker than any console and I'd rather play a game at 60 FPS than 30 FPS. Games may look good but they won't be as 'complete' as a natively produced PC game (i.e. as many particle effects, PhysX, AA, etc.).

The question should be are "next gen" consoles graphically closer to PC than ever before? And my answer would be yes.

PCs are all different, the question is moot.

37, i had a PowerVR card that was released in 1997, it was one of the first 3D cards out there along with the 1st Gen 3DFX cards. Playstation was already out for 3 years by that point. So yes i stand by my view that on release, the Playstation absolutely trounced the PC for 3-4 years.

K6 550mhz coupled with a voodoo 3 3000...consoles couldn't evem come close :)

I had a voodoo 3 3000 as well, really good card, ran everything i threw at it and was rock solid. But unfortunately that was 1999 and by that time PC's had already caught up.

And Tomb Raider didn't come out until 1996, come on guys, we all remember drooling over Ridge Racer wishing there was something that amazing on the PC. And the PC version of Wipeout was a complete Joke

What I really don't get about the Xbox one is that if you put together the price of them and the price of a basic PC for web/word processing you have enough for a decent gaming PC that can also be used for the basic PC needs. The price of the Xbox is far too high IMO especially as PC games are cheaper. It ends up being cheaper to buy a gaming PC even if you already have a PC for the internet.

I always considered consoles as great if you can't afford the cost of a PC or for casual gaming in your living room. But with small form factor PCs and with the Xbox one costing so much, that is now redundant.

The games didn't used to be worth so much more than a new PC game. But they're getting on for double the price and that is without steam sales etc.
