This processor has massive width core-wise but a largely derided IPC.

Is the R7 2700 the new FX 8350? Or will it survive and be regarded as a processor that's worthwhile? Will it 'scale' in ways that Bulldozer couldn't?
 
Well this all sounds very reassuring. I own the 2700 (and used to have an FX 8350). What has concerned me is the couple of games that didn't see much benefit going from the Bulldozer with a GTX 970 to the Ryzen with a 1070 Ti - particularly Dishonored 2 and FFXV IIRC. I suppose these games just have garbage engines. Of course some games were completely transformed with the upgrade, and it was definitely the CPU change more than the graphics card change which helped the most.
